Hi, I've heard that Minolta made a hand grip for the CLE. Has anyone seen it / used it? What kind of animal is it? I just got a CLE and am interested in the grip (I think). - Thanks!

I have one and it is very similar to the grip for the M. It attaches to the camera via the tripod mount and has an additional strap lug as well. They are very well made and definitely add to the secure handling of the camera. My middle finger always found itself on the lens release lock while holding the camera. Needless to say I was always afraid of inadvertantly releasing the lens. Now that I have the grip, I now longer have that problem.

Yes, they can be quite expensive and hard to find. I did get mine on ebay and was lucky to pay under a $100. I guess no one was watching at the time! They can go for over $200 easily.

kbg32, thanks - that's just the info I was looking for. I guess it's grip hunting time 🙂 Btw, if you ever want to get rid of it, can I have 1st dibs?

I can echo that lens release problem Keith. It bothers me too sometimes. As Joe and Keith have said, it is very hard to find and I vaguely remember watching one on the bay go for well over $100.

I think Joel (palaeoboy) here has at least one. I had asked him about it once. He said he found it took away from the compactness of the camera and so he stayed away from it. Another person I wrote to said he felt the grip to be indispensable. I thought about it long and hard and decided there was something to both sides of it! Then I saw one on ebay go for a lot of money considering what the grip actually is and decided to just ignore it. 🙁

The Sling looks intriguing but I kind of like the idea of actually "gripping" the camera, I think. But, at the price, I might as well try it - and hopefully be surprised. Thanks for the advice.
