Hello Buddies,

I have to replace the curtains in my Zorki. I have found some guides on the Internet, but a question remained open. One side of the cloth is covered with black rubber. If I found a proper cloth for the curtains, how could I apply a black rubber coating? Without this, the curtains will not be lightsafe. 😱

On the Ebay I have seen some fabric made curtains, but they are expensive and may not fit to early Zorki cameras. Some people proposed me that I should cut some curtains from old film-changing bags. However, I haven't manage to find an old bag with a tear or a damaged zipper or something that makes it useless for loading film tanks.😡:bang:

Could you tell me how I can cover one side of cloth with black rubber?🙁

If you get true shutter curtain cloth, THERE IS NO NEED to apply rubber on any of its surfaces. The cloth will be 100% light proof already.

Avoid the shutter cloth from microtools. They are as porous as sieves. Lots and lots of tiny pinholes.

Akiasahi.com has excellent shutter cloth. Select the silk-rubber-silk type. Will run perfectly in the Zorki.

I make my own shutter cloth though.

I have also lately been sewing shutter curtains, instead of just gluing them to the laths.

The ribbons can be cut from the cloth. But if you buy cloth from Akiasahi, the ribbon straps can be included in the package. Their straps are nice and strong, and of real silk, but they tend to unravel/unweave at the cut ends.
