Thanks for kind words,
and What a pity that you incurred such a bad situation in Vietnam. I hope that situation don't stop you visit here another time. (too fast to furious)
Well, it was kind of exciting at the time, but not so much as some other things that happened while I was there. There was a war going on and it was the way it was.
I guess the important thing is that I don't hold anything against Vietnam nor the Vietnamese people. Overall, I really enjoyed myself there. Enchanting people and some pretty countryside. I just wish I had taken more photographs there.
And I am really enjoying the photos in this thread. Please keep them coming.

Great series, Vincent! Like Kiemchacsu says, you know how to handle the SA 21!
Is that opium that old man is smoking?
Erik.
Hello Erik!
Thank YOU!
The 21SA is a great lens.
Coincidentally, I had the same question when I saw the old man smoking the pipe! He kindly showed me a packet of what he was smoking so I took a sniff and it smelled like tobacco.

I'm pretty sure it's just tobacco since my uncle uses the same pipe. but it does look like those opium pipe from Chinese literature/photos.
Last trip to Hanoi i was thinking of grabbing my 21 but skip them all together for the square format. Always think a super wide would work well with the tight street corners in the old quarter.keep on sharing Vincent.
The pipe seems to be filled with water. So when the smoker takes a puff, there is this sharp, whistling sound which I found interesting!
Bringing the 21SA to Hanoi was a rewarding decision for me. As you mentioned, the super wide works really well in tight situations. When out in the open, I was constant seeking for leading lines to shoot.

Vincent, I would echo with others that those are interesting pictures.
Sometimes, it's kind of a fresh for me to know how foreigners perceive Hanoi and Vietnam.
It was my first time to Hanoi, Vietnam. I really love the food and people. In many ways, the Vietnamese culture is similar to the Chinese so I could quickly relate to whatever I experience easily. A pity I could only speak very very little Vietnamese. I might be going back to Hanoi this year end again.

Here are three more shots I would like to share for today.
13. My experience with street photography in Hanoi is pleasant. People are generally curious with the camera I am using. I cannot speak Vietnamese language and mostly use sign language to communicate my intentions and feelings. Leica M2 / 21SA / Tri-X

14. I really like how these people sit together and chit chat over a cup of tea and melon seeds. This is how friends and colleagues should communicate and interact. Not through FB or internet. Leica M2 / 21SA / Tri-X

15. Leica M2 / 21SA / Tri-X

This is taken inside a dimly lit silk factory. This shot was more hope over experience.
The happy faces of children going home after school made me miss my kids back at home. I can sense that the people of Vietnam are happy and contented with their lives. They are humble and hardworking.

Farming is really hard work. This woman carried the watering cans back and forth to refill and water the vegetables. She made in looked easy but I know it is a back-breaking task. Cherish the food on your table at all times.

Thanks Vance and Vincent for heating up the thread.
It's good to show people images of Hanoi from different perspectives.
Keep the photos coming please!
