Happy Hassy

Just wanted to share a couple of shots from this weekend's outing with the Hassy 500C/M with the Zeiss 80/2.8 Planar (early chrome, single-coated). This outfit just continues to impress me.

This first one is hand-held at 1/60 - it is a little soft but that might also be my focusing in the dim lighting.



The other two were at more reasonable speeds. These three all with HP5+.

One more: The last was shot with a red filter on the lens. I got confused with this roll and shot half at 400 iso and half at 100 iso, then developed for the middle. They all scanned ok! This was with Lucky SHD 400. I think I'll shoot more of this at 100!

Big negatives make big impressions.

Very nice.

A monopod is a big help with slower speeds, it is a good helping hand for a Hassy kit.

Hi Ralph, I'm actually getting used to carrying a tripod when using this camera, but I wanted to see how it would go at the slower speeds - the answer is, better than the Mamiya 645 that I formerly used! Maybe the mirror is better damped.

But yes, those big negs are very easy to work with; scan easily and dust doesn't show up half as much.

Whew ! They are all nice but I have to comment on Chris's photo with the red filter, that is outstanding, to say the least. I love the glow and brightness of this shot. Must be the Planar and the filter, huh? Fine job there, Chris.

Very nice stuff Chris!

I simply adore my 500CM and 80 Planar. And the 150 Sonnar as well. I just wish it was as easy to carry around as a RF or even my Rolleiflex TLRs....

Haha, I guess I'm not the only one that's been using the Hassy lately! It was my most used camera before I got into rangefinders.

Thanks Tony! I haven't used filters very much yet, but it certainly brings up the clouds nicely. At least some of the glow in the image can be attributed to some careful adjustments in Lightroom to bring up the best in the negative - I love that "Clarity" slider!

Rich - I commented the other day (in my advert for the spotmeter) after looking at the first 100 photos in your flickriver set - very inspiring stuff there. Todd - excellent, as always (I expect no less from you!). Sienarot - I've not looked at much of your stuff - these are great!. Mfogiel - great light there! @rover: Yep, the Hassy makes some loud "flap"-sound but it is low-frequent so it is difficult to locate. 😉😀

These are fantastic! I was gonna bring my M3 with me tomorrow, but maybe I'll work on that roll I just loaded into the Hassy now!
