Wondering what all your achilles heels are? Mine are asking strangers for portraits and stopping off the freeway. Portraits I am slowly getting over, but some days or with some people I just cannot get myself to do it. Oddly enough, the only people who have been rude and refused me were mormon missionaries. And I live in Salt Lake City! The more I do this the easier it gets though.

As for stopping on the freeway, I'm a bit afraid of just pulling off to the side, but I see so many places I'd like to photograph right off the freeway. I suppose this one is fairly easy to solve, but I'm not sure how safe it is...

So what are your most difficult captures? What photos always seem to evade you?

About people, the places with prostitutes and drugs dealers. And cops: I got no shots with interesting situations involving cops... It's not easy to "stay there" with a 28 to see if things happen to them... I've tried, but I always end up leaving before I get shots or before I get to prison...

About light, the places where the light is direct, low and changing at the same time, as in concerts in small bars where there's real low ambient light (say 1/2 f/1.4 @3200) mixed with a few moving beams of direct, changing color light on the artist's face, coming and going all the time... For those cases I have on my pocket a list with all Gods from around the world...

Cheers,

Juan

a crow fighting a polar bear in the arctic in raw light. I can't ever seem to get my exposures right. I always get blown out highlights and no texture in my blacks.

Jordanstarr, sounds like you are shooting digital, Its not surprising you are having problems with blowout highlights or lack of detail in blacks Those areas are digitals biggest weaknesses, Try shooting with a polarizer, it will help in both areas or try shooting film, that will solve both problems - Kievman

For Me shooting murder scenes were always a bitch. Exspecially when there are relatives around. Nothing worse then trying to compose a shot when you have screaming folks in the background - Kievman

.. in full sunlight in Manchester?
