Harman Titan - first experience

OK, I'm interested. Any suggestions on what kind of 4 X 5 back I should get for this camera? Where to look for a back? I'm in the U.S.

Dear Jim,

Just an ordinary Fidelity film holder. They're just about everywhere. Google 'em. Rite-Way or Toyo should be fine too. But Linhof film-plate holders (rarer and more expensive anyway) are too thick.

Cheers,

Hi sleepyhead, Brian has already mentioned a few good reasons that some pinholers use large-format.

Besides the reduction of grain in enlargements, another reason pinholers may use the larger-format is that one can then do alternative process contact prints (cyano-types, etc.).

rt

Besides less grain, the larger negative requires less enlargement for viewing or printing (or no enlargement for contact printing), which adds an appearance of enhanced sharpness.

But also, the Rayleigh Limit formula (which indicates the optimal sized pinhole aperture for a given projection distance) favors longer focal lengths, yielding higher f-numbers, which also adds to the appearance of increased sharpness.

EDIT: To clarify: longer focal lengths, for the same equivalent angle of view, imply larger format film sizes.
