Has anyone ever photographed "Dignity"?

If so, please post it as I would like to remember...

I can't help you with dignity. But I can offer you some grace.

(Not a rangefinder-picture, I know, but that wasn't asked for, was it? ;-))

An unlikely but very good place to look is in Salgado's work. Arguably dignity is both possessed and bestowed and Salgado's perhaps fits the latter bill. The title 'An Uncertain Grace' conveys both the notion and style of some of the images.

I actually believe that this quality in some of his photos is responsible for making some of his images too 'majestic' or 'heroic' for some and so would appear to invalidate the criticism sometimes levelled. A lot of his imagery owes a great deal to Soviet art IMO and while dignity and stoicism/heroism are not the same thing, there are overlaps.

These are real dignity images!
I thought that you meant some stripper called "Dignity".

This was very much a case of a subject wishing to show it and me wishing to photograph it, but the context is important. Look at the rest of the series and it will make more sense. This gentleman brushed himself off, put on a jacket and composed himself before sitting down on the wall with crossed legs. It was important to him to salvage some dignity from a place where there was little to be found and because of this I took the photo, even tho it is not the strongest in many regards. It was symbolic for him and it is also for me, hence its inclusion in the series.
