So my light meter on my m6ttl has caused me more problems than I thought it would when I was in Myanmar and now I realize I need to do something about it. The problem is, the meter basically never goes off. It stays on until the batteries drain, the only way around it is to not advance the film after I take a picture and then advance the film right before I take a picture...I can't do that....it doesn't work for me....I ended up using it without a meter when I was in Myanmar, but I really want the meter to work.

I emailed Sherry K and she told me that it could be a couple of different things and that I should send it to her so she can check it out. Here's , my problem, I should get a CLA on the camera as well if somebody is going to work on it, because the shutter button is not very sensitive and it takes quite a lot of force for it to release the shutter...I am using a softie now and that works fine, but it is not a "fix" to the problem. The camera also does not fire the flash at shutter speed 2, even though it is not that big of a deal, I am aware that the camera needs a CLA....

I am looking at around 600-700 usd for everything (that's a guess) but according to Sherry, the CLA is around 300usd and, well, I am not so sure about the meter, she said it could be a couple of things, but I am thinking it is going to need to be replaced....but then again, I could be wrong.

I am thinking about changing up my gear, but I have a couple of problems...I like my m6ttl because of what it has gone through with me, and I am thinking about getting another one and use two m6ttl's for work stuff and use my m2 and m3 around town...I can't see myself selling my m2 and m3......I don't want to put a lot of money into the m6ttl and then sell it....it doesn't seem right....anyways...

My question is, has anyone had this same problem with their meter and if so, what did you do about it?

cheers, michael

My M6 also had the problem that the meter wouldn't turn itself off after the proscribed 15 (?) seconds.

Until I had the time to fix it, I set the time to "B" when storing or transporting the camera and cocked the shutter only when about to shoot.

The fault was - as I suspected - with the shutter release button. Apparently, there's a contact which turns on the timing electronics which in turn activate and deactivate the meter. From you description I would think that your camera has a similar problem which - in my case - could be fixed quite easily by my local repair service.

Much as in your case, my dealer recommended a CLA which I gladly did. Now the camera's nearly as new and I'm quite happy with it.

Hi guys, Im a newbie. Nice to join this forum.

Not a TTL, but on my M6 classic, one day 1 LED stopped working. Actually quite difficult to use the meter with one LED only, when its dark ....

I then had a full CLA, complete meter circuit replacement + MP finder upgrade done for a bit less than US 500, if I remember right. Without the finder it would have been a bit more than US 300. At Steve Choi's in Southern California, one of the best Leica technicians in the country. I picked him before others, since he is very responsive by email, and return times are predictable (around 3 weeks for the above job).

It's a perfect camera now 🙂

Roland.
