All this talk about cameraleather, makes me wanna change rhe skin on my M6 to something similar to my M3. What is the nearest I can get the original, sticky, goodlooking vulcanite? I've heard lots of praises for the GripTac, but to me it looks much coarse compared to the original stuff...
The nearest you can get to original Leica M[23] vulcanite is an Aki Asahi covering. Check with him if he cuts for the M6 ....

I just ordered GripTak (gray) for a 'new' OM-1n.
(Hey, if back alley likes it, how could I go wrong?)
Incidentally, I got next day response from Sparks.

It's not from cameraleather, but #4008 from Aki-asahi looks close to M3's.

I had their skin for E-P1 and I couldn't be happier. I can't compare it with my M3 now as I no longer have the E-P1, but #4008 sure looked nice and classic. I'm thinking of recovering my MP with this.

I ordered 3 sets of leather about 3 weeks ago. Morgan did contact me right after my order. I haven't heard back since then. Don't know when I will receive it.

My last two orders have been with Aki Asahi. The material arrived in Pittsburgh from Japan within 10 days.
I think I'll give Aki Asahi a few more tries, as I have several cameras that will need to be re-covered soon.

I ordered a sheet of coarse-grained black leatherette from Morgan last week and got it in the mail two days ago. He's still there.
When they start selling cellulose leatherette in sheets I might be interested in Aki Asahi, but until then Morgan and Micro Tools are pretty much the only games in town.

My second CL recovering job went smooth as silk- Morgan turned it around quickly and it (my .58 MP in Rollei Black) is better than ever.

Griptac is very similar but very slightly coarser than the standard but an order of magnitide better. It really does change how the camera feels in your hand.

I ordered a sheet of Griptac for the M5 three weeks ago and got it within a week. No complaints about shipping speed from me.
The Griptac is excellent. Looks good, strong texture, good tactile properties, very good grip. Strongly recommended.

The complaints about speed seem to mostly come from people who use his recovering service.

My MP is now sexier than ever. Aki-Asahi 4008 covering applied.
Comparing with my M3 from 1956.

I've obviously ordered a covering which one cannot expect to be in stock, or ready made at least. Verdi gris goat skin for the R-D1. Gone a week now, and nothing shipped. But I'm not complaing. A small operation is vulnerable to varations in order load and what not. I'm just glad there are people who care enough to keep such niche operations going.

Just a quick update, 6 months on the Griptac is amazing, its held on through storms hail snow, makes the camera much easier to use with gloves and without. Love it, will recover all of my cameras that are available to be honest.
