Has Leica Made Rockwell A Better Photog?

A couple of them are actually excellent, i think. The moving rock one and the bus and the red doors I really like, though I think he is saturating the crap out of his scans.

I was staring at them earlier today... look pretty good to me! I especially like the one with the salt flat and the large rock. Those shots are sharp sharp sharp.

I like these photos quite a lot. Interesting his remark about how to extend the range of the Gossen Digisix to measure down to -9 EV. That was new for me.

it's still the same junk, just wait till he gets back home and starts taking snaps of his neighborhood again. boring palm trees and such. he knows better than anyone that it's not the camera that matters, but the photographer. i've never looked at his website for any sort of photographic inspiration, but i do read his articles for a fresh perspective. entertaining to say the least.

Its not his fault, his a engineer by profession and what looks like boring boulders, rubble and a public toilet with no photogenic values whatsoever to us, to him it has structure and the symmetry soothes his mathematically inclined brain.

Once again I hate to repeat, but we're all victims of our own psyche.

I like a number of those photos. And no matter what anybody says about his composition, he's got the technical side of photography down, which is pretty impressive to me.

Plus, the notes about the Gossen meter and the timer in the M7 are pretty neat. Until this day, I had never wanted an M7.... sigh

What I find most surprising is how incredibly sharp his photos are. I can see now what inspired him to write his Real Raw article.

I'm curious about one thing - why is everyone so hot and bothered about everything Ken Rockwell is or does?

I mean yes, I know who he is and that many love or hate his articles, but he's becoming another Rush Limbaugh - someone so loved and reviled that no one can take their eyes off him. I'm surprised no one has reported on his dietary habits or the kind of car he drives.

It's a form of stalking; never appealed to me. Don't get it.

I think he drives a Mercedes. ;)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Ken's got some great articles and ideas. Key word is some.

I never thought I'd see him play around with expensive Leicas, as I thought he'd instantly dismiss them. I'm not a fan of his photography--a lot of his shots are too warm for my liking, but he does have some fairly good advice re: just going out and shooting, and not worrying about fancy camera tech.

Oh, you mean congress creating world financial meltdown? Definite RawDeal™ there.

But what about this Ken™ Rockwell™ Raw™ talk? Ooops, that sounds like a video tape I don't want to see.
