Over the past six months, I re-created my old Hasselblad kit. That is an SWC and a 500CM with 80 and 150 mm lenses. I just picked up the first four rolls of film I shot with these two cameras. Stunning. Amazing. Beautiful rendering from these lenses. The images just pop right there on the negative. Cant wait to scan and print.

Worth every penny... I'm so chuffed. 🙂

That's why I can't bring myself to get rid of my seldom used Hassy kit. Once in a while, I'll dig it out, shoot some 'chromes, and say "Ohhh yeah" when my film comes back from the lab.

Me too! But why are you guys not using yours? For me, the Hassie is too heavy to carry around and when MF, I mostly use a Mamiya 6.
But the Negs are georgeous from the Hasselblad.....

More so than from the Mamiya? I notice that Chris Crawford has switched from Hasselblad to Mamiya for the weight advantage. I get this, but I'm staying with my 'Blad for the flexibility of composing on the groundglass; and for the Zeiss lenses.

Owning a focomat IIc with xpan and 6x6 capability is something I love about my life. My blad is used to its full potential. The negs are perfect.

For me it was getting the entire system I lusted after, but could never afford, way back in the 70's. I had a brand-new 500C/M, 80mm lens, one A12 back, and a few accessories, all purchased new. Couldn't afford anything else!

Now, I have two 500C/M's, two 500EL/M's, fifteen+ film magazines (single shot to A70), all of the black T* lenses (except the 500 f8, the 105U/V, and the 250Apo). And 80% of the original accessories, which is almost a hundred different items. I have all the original catalogs, so I know.

This stuff is fun to collect and use (and affordable for what it is). And I will play with it and use it all for years to come. I call Hasselblad "The Erector Set of Photography". Configure it into whatever you want to do with it, and enjoy.

Sort of a related question, I use an 80mm C lens on my 500c/m for the most part and the images are wonderful ,,,, my question is are the T coatings on the later lenses that much better than on my C lens.

I have never tried the later 80's so I have no basis for comparison.

Thanks!!

The T* multicoatings are very very good and improve every lens, reducing flare and improving contrast. BUT that doesn't mean the earlier lenses are bad by any means. My Sonnar 150mm is from 1969ish ... Yes, the 1982 version I had in the past was a slightly better performer, but the difference is really a subtlety.

Woof! That is way more stuff than I want to manage.. =8-O

But I agree with your thought of "the erector set" ... Hasselblad Vs are such a modular system and they made so many different bits, you can pretty much assemble whatever rig fits your purpose.

Now, to find time to do some film scanning... !

Getting back into 6x6, I first picked up a couple of classic folders and then the Voigtländer Bessa III. I've found that for compactness, nothing beats a classic folder (my two are Balda Baldix and Voigtländer Perkeo II). The Bessa III I've had trouble getting to love ... for a 6x6 folder, it's really rather large and ungainly even folded. Super lens and a nice piece, but in all honesty a Hassy 500CM with 80 Planar and WL finder isn't any bulkier, really, and hangs off my shoulder better. The shape is different but it's actually easier to carry for me.

I was tempted by Mamiya 6 and 7, but I'm glad I went with the Hassy again. It just suits me well.

I am working currently on a project where mixing 135 film with 120. I took out my old Swede (500CM) with the two lenses I have 80mm and 250mm. I have to carry around a tripod again - it's real fun for a couple hours 🙂 I'll be looking for some back as I have one but it is hard to invest in two systems in the same time. Yesterday I got as a present a vivitar tele converter that I don't know if I am going to put in use as the lenses I have are on the longish side but it's always nice to get some toys around 😀 Got a nice Accute Mattte D screen too.
Heavy stuff but when I look at the negatives I start appreciating it again 🙂

Boris

I only have an old SWC. I will try it out during an upcoming trip, and I will then be able to see the Hasselbald wonder.

Nope. Use a good lenshood, Hasselblad makes a nice Compendium one that works well with the 80 Planar. Or simply cast a shadow on the front of the lens while shooting (In Hollywood they call this a GOBO). A hat works well for shading purposes.

You will not see any difference at all, in my experience.

The use of my Hassy really dropped off after I got a Mamiya 7II, which quickly became my most used film camera. Love that 43mm lens!
