Oh FSU wizards and other interested gurus, I purchased a Kiev II a couple of years ago and had good luck with it until recently. At random, it seems, images are haunted with a flash of light. It's not lens flare as the same pattern has been seen with a couple of lenses. Assuming it was a light leak and not a shutter problem, my trusted repairman worked on the camera but was not able to fix it. He believes the shutter is functioning correctly. The light flash appears at speeds 125/sec and above. Has anyone seen this problem before? The attached JPG was shot with Provia 400. Not really sure of the speed and aperture but 125/sec at f11 seems about right. Lens was a Jupiter-9.

Thanks!

George

It's probably a light leak, Kiev's are infamous for them. They use a "string" seal for the top portion of the camera, tape around the viewfinder.

You might also check that the shutter is capping at all speeds while winding.

You can also look up "Eddy Smolov" for fast and reasonable service for the Kiev.

Thanks! I checked out the website. As I am not sure I have the competence to disassemble my Kiev, I'll call Eddy Smolov.
