Have To say I am very troubled by this statement.

If you feel 'troubled' already over a stupid and shortsighted statement on a website, I wonder what you feel like when seeing a hurricane aftermath in your neck of the woods, or the daily portion of misery on the evening news?

I mean come on, the folks who created that website only posted (truly horrible!) shots of others online but never bothered to prove their 'authority' by posting one image of their own hand anywhere, be it a good one or a bad one even.

You get 'troubled' by that? Best get offline then and turn a hermit...

If you buy a camera, you are a photographer. If you buy a piano you are a...well, the owner of a piano. I think "photographer" has slipped into the realm of a pan-everythingism and needs qualificaton each time what we do with a camera comes up.

the idea for the site came from somebody with low self esteem or and ego as big a Jupiter and making fun of other people makes these people feel good about themselves.

Quite a common failing on the web.

Personally, I can't stand people who can't stand people like that.

Oops!

:D

So there is this site and it says

"Being a photographer means owning more than one lens."

Well, I wouldn't get offended too much by a site that needs to proclaim that others aren't something or other. These sites are generally run by bitter people who assume they are great when, generally, they just aren't.

Statements like that make me laugh. You ARE a photographer if you take photography seriously and your work shows it. Some people can do that with one lens only, others need more. It's the result that matters, not what you use to get there.

P.S. If I bought into everything other people told me on a "take it from me" basis, I'da never gotten anywhere.

I'm not sure I've gotten anywhere anyway, and I ignored plenty of it. I should have ignored EVEN MORE.

Cheers,

R.

i feel kinda of dissapointed at people in general when I read it because a lot of people agree with that statement and feel like they just spoke their mind :(

(someone I know shared this link and said this is the website I've been looking for)
Even these days, I run across photogs who just use one cam and one lens. I came across a lady on flickr last year who specializes in travel pictures of cities in pre-dawn light. She seems to have lots of gear, but looking at her exif data, I see that it's always the kit zoom (sort of 35 to 75mm). I think most PJs shoot wide with the same sort of lens.
