I had no idea such a thing was possible till a couple of years ago when I had the opportunity to buy at a local camera store, a lens in micro four thirds mount but, it being a 14mm lens I had an idea of using it also on a Sony NEX 7 where I could take better advantage of its wide angle on those occasions when I needed it.
I bought the lens (its price was good) and then bought a no name m43 to Sony NEX adapter on eBay. It is about 1 mm thick give or take and while I would say it is fairly cheaply made it seems to work OK at providing focus to infinity ( I think I read somewhere that infinity focus is only an issue on certain lenses with these adapters. I can only say it has not been an issue I have noticed). I have also since used it a few times stacked with other adapters - I had occasion to buy a 35mm Exacta lens for example and decided to buy only an m43 Exacta lens adapter and use the M43 to NEX adapter with it when needed. That seems to work OK too. No point buying two lens adapters when you can successfully stack adapters to get the result you need........
For the very few bucks it cost I think it is worthwhile. As I have said, I have not noticed any inability to focus to infinity but then again I probably have only used it with lenses up to 35mm which I tend to stop down in any event. The only small niggle is this - whether mounted directly on a camera or when using it stacked with another adapter there is a bit of circular "wiggle" caused by the locking catch on the adapter being slightly below the size of the notch into which it is supposed to lock on a lens or other adapter (or is it on the camera body - I am not certain without checking........) In any event this is not a major problem - a lens mounted on this adapter is not loose in the sense that it wiggles forward and backwards for example - so there is no loss of image quality that I have discerned. But it is never the less slightly disconcerting that a lens mounted using this adapter does not quite exhibit the tightness I would like. Still at the price I paid I cannot really grumble. Its cheap and cheerful but it does what I have asked of it - with the above caveat. Whether other makes of this type of adapter would be better who knows - every picture I have seen on eBay from every seller looks identical to the one I bought so I suspect that if they are branded, those other brands have only been "badge engineered".
