Hi all,

i'm having some problems with my Canonet and the Canolite D. I pretty much like the camera, but it cost me a lot of money to even get it in a more or less working condition. So i'm trying to figure out whats wrong before i give it to the repairman once again. Here's what currently fails, just in case anyone of you has got an idea of how to fix it:

- The Camera doesnt recognize the Canolite D-flash unit in "A"-Mode. The manual says, with the flash mounted, the camera should automatically set the correct F-stop according to the focus range. Rather than that my Canonet meters like no flash was mounted and therefore doesn't expose when the light is too dim for the chosen shutter speed. If i set the camera to flash mode position "14" manually, everything works fine, but of course I get slightly overexposed pictures (the Canolite has a GN of 16).

-without the flash, the metering failed several times in the past when I switched between AE and manual exposure. Switching back from (unmetered) manual, the camera simply would not give me a meter reading and denied exposure until I moved the apperture dial back and forth a couple of times.

Has someone of you had similar problems or hints on how to fix them? Your help is greatly apreciated! Have a nice weekend,
regards,

Klaus

I have a similar problem to the second one with a Canonet 28, where the metering often is dead. I figure it's either corrosion or a soldering gone bad, but I unfortunately don't know where in the camera to look.

With the first problem, can you check the cables that go to the hot-shoe? Or maybe it's corrosion on the pins of the hot-shoe itself that prevents connection?

I checked the contacts on the Hot Shoe once more, found one I had'nt seen before, cleaned it with Contact cleaner and... now it works! Now I am left with the meterin problems, but that should be OK.
Thanks a lot, mate!
Regards, Klaus
