I've no connection to any of the parties involved and have no pecuniary motives for posting this.

The reason I've posted this (and the one about the Leica M6 and Summilux) is because I bumped into a group of photo students and avid Rangefinder forum users the other day. They saw my Leica and all bemoaned the fact that you needed to be "seriously rich" to have a Leica. When I told them that you could still get good deals out there, they didn't believe me and started quoting Ebay prices at me ad nauseam.

I suggested they tried local auction houses, but this met with scoffs of, "you won't find anything good there".

This is just a poor estimate on the side of the house, probably due to lack of market knowledge. Hammer price isn't going to be anywhere in that ballpark, especially once you advertised the lot here.
 
Yup, the hammer price will be higher than the estimate - and I'm aware that auction houses put 'come and get me' estimates on items - but my point in posting was to show the peeps I spoke to the other day (who regularly read the threads here), that you can get good gear outside of Ebay, and you can get good deals too.

Sometimes and sometimes not. The surprising thing is just how little some of these items often go for. Dealers want to maximise their profits and bid low, are often busy 'dealing' and occasionally just don't seem to bother making the effort.

A year ago I missed (due to holidays) a Linhof Technika IV complete with 4 lenses, outfit case, optical viewfinder, all cams, roll film backs etc. which sold for £150.00 pounds. All the items were in very good condition, and the auction was live on the internet.

You just never know.....
