my name is reinhard,
i'm german, and i life in germany.
i love rf cameras, since my mother had an old voigtländer,
which i took sometimes.
i have to say for daily life i use a Sony R1, because of easier workflow.
but my heart beats with my rf's, and some times, in some situations
i take one of them ...
i have Minolta 7 S II, 2x Revue 400 SE, Olympus RD, XA, Cononet QL17 GIII, 28,
Zeiss Super Ikonta 6x6.
and me favorite in the minolte because of her beautyful bokeh ...
(and the revue which are the same)
hmm.
ok so long ...

Hallo Reinhard,
Welcome to the forum!
Just to make sure you aren't an imposter(we have been terrorized by a banned member with a form of mental disease), please be so kind as to answer the following questions in grammatically-perfect German (ie. no grammar, spelling or capitalization mistakes).
1. Warum gefällt Dir die Meßsucherkamera? (Why do you like the rangefinder camera?)
2. Wie hast Du dieses Forum gefunden? (How did you find this forum?)
3. Warum schreibst Du Englisch nur mit Kleinbuchstaben? (Why do you write english with only lowercase letters?)
We hope you enjoy this forum, Reinhard!
viele Grüße,
Kevin

Kevin, that's not exactly a warm welcome is it? Are we going to interrogate every new member from now on?

Hi mate: nice to see you here.
You'll find most friendly helpful people here and a few oddballs - just like everyday life.
The Olympus XA is very highly regarded at RFF. Stupidly I got rid of My XA3 (or XA4, mine was the wideangle one) and have regretted it ever since.

It was a warm welcome with reserved scepticsm.
All Germans I know have had at least 5 years of rigorous obligatory school english and do not make the specific kinds of mistakes I read in that post.
I know because I have translated a lot of texts in the past.
It is as if these mistakes were engineered to make a particular impression.
When Chico first appeared on the forum I figuratively bit my tongue.
It turned out my speculations were correct.
If Reinhard is authentic he will appreciate the necessity to weed out imposters. Germans pride themselves on being authentic (and punctual) !!
"Viele Grüße" means "Many Greetings" by the way.

That is a bit hostile Kevin! although understandable to some degree. There are many native-born English people who have a poorer grasp of the written language than was displayed in the first post in this thread. I hope that Strangefinder if he is who he says he contributes positively to the forum and gets a lot out of it.
Could I also point out that whilst the departed forum member does satisfy some of the criteria for an Axis II disorder under the DSM IV it's not appropriate to refer to it as a Mental Disease It's also stigmatising for those members of the forum who do have a mental illness, of which there will undoubtedly be some.

Welcome Reinhard. You've got a nice collection of cameras already and many are favourites with other members here. Looking forward to seeing some of your work in the gallery.

You make good points Andy. There could be other reasons, unknown to me, for the untypical mistakes in that post. I trust my gut instinct for now, however.
If this is a hoax it portrays Germans to be uneducated, which couldn't be further from the truth. Germans are on average extremely well-educated and well-spoken in the languages they wish to know.
Schizophrenia and other forms of mental disease are very common indeed and I disagree that it is stigmatising to talk about it. The words disease, disorder and illness are interchangeable, although I would say that disease is the more modern term.
Let's just make sure we are clear on this. This disease or whatever you wish to call it is devastating, not only for the person who has it but for all of his/her family members as well. Schizophrenics lose a lot if not all of their friends over their lifetimes. If they go off the drugs, victims relapse into altering states of depression and aggression. They are also lonely and feel unloved as a consequence of having little social interaction.
I am not an expert by any means simply one of many family members who had to deal with a victim for many years. I am not one to ridicule people with this disease. I have great sympathy for all victims. But I think it is important for victims to admit that they need medical help and seek it out - and not terrorize unwitting patrons of an internet camera forum!
Best Regards,
Kevin

I wasn't in this instance talking about Schizophrenia, the Axis II disorders are quite different, although just as severe in their potential consequences. The outcomes you state for schizophrenia are only representative of 1/3 of those who experience this terrible illness. 1/3 recover, 1/3 are kept well with the assistance of medication and 1/3 go on to have the chronic illness.
Labelling theory is something I have a particular fondness for, but since I'm not at work, I won't go on about it any more.

How many is enough?
And what if it scared off an (THE) imposter? My gut instinct is in agreement with Kevin's gut until there's proof otherwise. IMO too, the grammar mistakes are not typical of who he says he is. And referring the departed mamber as having a mental disorder IMO, is accurate in that instance. I could think of some other, also accurate adjectives to describe him but will refrain.Jon Claremont said:I hope that upthread posts haven't scared this new guy away.

This guy is interested in photography but we're questioning him about whether he's really who he says he is and we're discussing psychiatry.
I believe in thinking the best of people unless they prove they are not worthy of it.
How many posts upthread are about photography?

Hey Guys,
Before everyone gets paranoid and starts questioning all new members, why not leave it to the Mods - We do keep an eye out for such things and perhaps have more info than you.
If I were a new member, I would be very disheartened if this hapened to me. If I were a spoofer, such comments and reaction are only likely to fuel my ego and make it all the more likely that I would keep playing games.

I thought this would be normal ? But Paranoia has done its work already here , or what ? Where are the priorities ? Is it more important to treat a newbie with the necessary respect or more to keep the threads of a gaga-head outta here ?
Shall we give up our good manners just because we are under "attack" of a Quatschkopf ?
If this is FG it will turn out sooner or later. But in case strangefinder should NOT be our beloved friend he must feel now like having landed here in a lunatic asylum.
And he will tell it other people elsewhere.
