I started photography with my father's old camera too, a German Kodak RF. I lived and worked for a year in Japan (Ego Sensei). I lived in a small vilage called Yamamoto between Kobe and Osaka (near Nishinomia). I loved it there! I wish I had stayed longer but my (gaijin) girlfriend at that time was homesick for Canada. Teaching began at 1pm and ended at 8pm, leaving the mornings free. I loved taking the train and exploring a new town, walking westward toward the mountains where some old temples and shrines were located.
Anyway, welcome here!

Welcome to the forum kunihiko, with your Canon and your cat avatar I recon that you'll fit right in.
It's good to hear that some others use the Canon FD kit, I still have a rather old A-1, still working like the day I got it. An old buddy gave me an old FP a while back, I guess I saved it from the trash, still works fine.
As Brett said there are one or two that use Canon RFs here.

Hi, existrandom. if you're getting a japanese girlfriend I'd recommend some from '60 and CLA. oh, I would check the auction out much more often than before.
Konnichiwa Frank sen-sei, I'm from Saitama and live in Tokyo, but my father's from Hyogo. I believe that Rokko mountain is as famous as Mt.Fuji, because of Rokkor lens.
Hi, Fred and Tony. The lady in my avatar is Siren, far from silent. She has a little sister called "Zone II". A black cat, of course.
I love FDs, especialy my New F-1. The only annoying thing is its sound. I like the sound, but too loud in some occasion. That's why I'm considering RF.
Thank you again for welcoming and suggestions.
Though the IIS2 works and I can live with bottom loading, its view finder is bit dimmer than I can be comfortable with. So I would like to have newer one for regular use. Since the finder is an issue for me, V series or later models are candidates.
I glanced at Canon Camera Museum. There are many models and many things I should consider.
7 and 7s have built-in meter, ohters don't.
P has fixed magnificaiton finder, others have variable.
Trigger winder or lever winder.
Some have re-winding crank, some have knob.
Cloth curtains or metal curtains.
It's happy to see Canon has made such variant.

There are quite a number of variations, aren't there?
Perhaps you have seen these already, but there are some very good pages on the Canon rangefinders at these pages:
http://www.photoethnography.com/ClassicCameras/index-frameset.html?index-body.html.html~mainFrame
http://www.cameraquest.com/classics.htm
http://www.dantestella.com/technical.html
The information on these pages, as well as the enthusiasim here, lead me to my IVSb and then 7. Hopefully you'll find something useful as well.

Andrew, thank you for welcoming.
William, thank you again. There are many great informations !
I was suprised to see how popular the Canon RFs are.
Yesterday, I visited some used camera shops. There were many Canon RFs and lenses.
7 and VT looked bit too large for me. I know it's only 6mm in height, but 6mm. VT was pricy, and many 7 seemed to have troubles in their built-in meter. Perhaps I would pass up them. I was charmed with a clean-cut looking L1 which reasonably priced. Ps were cheaper, though.
Yes, there are many variations! can't make a decision.
I haven't decided which body yet, then I picked a 35mm lens up and backed home with it. I can't wait to try the lens out. It's looking good on my IIS2.
I may be with the IIS2 for a while. Ummm.

Kunihiko-san,
I was in Japan several times back in the early 1970's and wished I had more time there. I was in Sasebo, Yokusaka and Tokyo. I bought my first SLR there a Yashica TL Electro X.
I too love and use Canon although the only RF is a Canonet QL17GIII
I have an F1 and F1n, two A1's and two T90's and am looking hard at a EOS5/A2 as my next user.
I have many photos from japan maybe we could exchange some over email some time. I would like to see what it looks like 30 years later.
Welcome to the site and I look forward to your sharing some photos with us.

Konnichiwa Floyd-san,
I haven't paid much attention to used camera market for a while, but now I'm feeling lucky to be here in tokyo. There are many used camera shop around Shinjuku, Ginza and Nakano. I see many vintage canons in e-bay. Sometime they are cheaper in price than in Japan, but what I like most is to actually see and touch them when to shop. Tokyo is a big city, but not that big in its size. It's fun to go shopping. I can visit several shops a day.
I've been doing photography as a hobby for years. I've liked both of auto everything gears and manual everything cameras. Which I'm liking more lately is manual things such as my toyo45 and hassy. It's fun to use them. And I just realized that this Canon was my very first camera. It's also the first camera for my family. Now I kinda have a soft spot for the IIS2. I've used the IIS2 sometime, but I would be with this more than ever. And of course, I will have it CLAed when I had a backup body.
Rickey-san konnichiwa,
In the early 1970's I was in the country side of Saitama, good days indeed. There wasn't even a TV set in my house, what I was dooing was just running about in the field. When I see a photograph of myself from those days, what I see is an artless kid with butch haircut. Things chanege, so does Japan. There's housing instead of rice field in my hometown. I haven't seen a child with a snivel for a while. Changes of cities suprise even me. I miss those old days sometime, but I sill believe there are beautifull things here. I wish I could capture them with a camera from those lovely days.
It seems that I can have a gallery in RFF. I would upload some picture which I take with my Canon RF. I'm doing only B&W for while. I think it matches.
If you have an interest I have a small gallery here. It's in Japanese language and my phots aren't good, though.

taffer, thank you for welcoming. I would tell her.
Hi Peter! Have you sold your SLRs ?
I haven't decided that much, though. I haven't shot with SLR this month but with RF in both 135 and 120. The results made me satisfied. I might get rid of my AF gears to have funds for new-to-me RF outfit.
And thank you for visting my gallery. I should have made the pages in English. See you around !

Hi Kunihiko,
I have sold all my SLR to fund my RFs! By the way, are you into Cosina Voigtlander? Really comprehensive system and not to mention excellent lenses for the money. You should not have any problem getting them in Japan.

Peter

Hi peter,
She's about going to be 3 years old, so is her sister Zonetwo. The picture in my avatar was caputured when she was much younger.
I was not a catperson untill a straycat came to my place. The straycat wasn't much old, but was very weak because of illness. She couldn't even feed by herself. I happend to be taking care of her. I was feeding her through a catheter for about a month, but she couldn't make it. Oh, I rememnber, I sold cameras and lenses to fund vet bill. There was a Cosina Voigtlander which I just bought and hadn't used yet.
After she passed away, you know, I was already a catperson. Siren in my avetar and Zonetwo were in a shelter which run by a volunteer group. They save homeless kitties and search for adoptions.
Zonetwo is a beautifull black cat, very gentle and reserve. Siren mews all the time, that's why I named her Siren. And she is really a wild fellow, a fighter. She always gets injured. About a year ago, she got badly wounded in the legs and was going to the vet almost everyday. It was 74 times in 90 days as I was counting. I've sold some cameras and lenses to cover the vet bill(again and again!). There were some canon EF L lenses, FD lenses and A series bodies which I was collectiong. All of them have turned into vet bill. I like that anyway. I love Siren and Zonetwo.
Looks like Siren has matured a bit. It's time for me to build a new camera kit.
I'm sorry for the allergy of your wife. I've heard that time could heal. I hope it does.
As for the VC, I'm not concerning a body so far, but I might pick a lense or two. Their super wide angle lenses are tempting!
