Hello, I am based in Europe, I found a Leica M4 p with a 35mm summicron 35 f2.

The problem is that the 35mm summicron is the v4 king (plastic one).

The camera seems estetically quite ok B+ ( a little bump on the right side not too visible, and some minor scratches not so visible on the edges). The camera has the zync plate, the courtains are ok, the viewfinder quite contrasty, just a little foggy (like that it need to be cleaned the inner part of the large viewfinder glass), a little part of vulcanite on the side lower part is missing. It has no box, and as accessories a black leica exposimeter.

The lens is 35mm summicron f2 version v4 (plastic one), without box only with lens rectangular hood. I tried to move the upper external part, and it seems stable but not too bulky, but anyway very compact without haze or fungus or dust inside.Just a minor scratch not too visible.

Do you think a price for both around 2500€ is too much? Only the camera 1000?

What do you think would be the cost for only the camera? Can I fix the viewfinder (it seems to work ok, but...)?

Aquila, Current asking price are quite high. I think the prices you are looking at are in the range. As far as the plastic on the Summicron you would have to go back many decades and many versions to get one in a metal mount. Still it is a desirable lens who's 'value' & desirability has appreciated a lot. I'd suggest having a trained technician clean and adjust the body.

If you have to ask, I'd say; no you can't. Let a repair tech do that when it is time to send it in.
The asking price of 2500 sounds OK. However, the V4 Summicron is over valued - especially the one with plastic parts, it probably is the worst build M lens Leica has made to date.
Consider one of the current Voigtlander options.

I went to a local store in my town, and I found a pretty good Leica M6 black V2 0,72. After talking a lot with the guy, they offered me the camera after cleaning it and fix the haze on the VF with 2 years of warranty for 1800euro. Do you think is a good bergan for the actual value?

Aquila, the current prices of M6 are shocking. Not so long ago they traded readily at under 1000 euro. Given the current situation 1800 euro....with a 2 yr warranty, seems good.

Aquila.... in my mind i've separated the body from the lens... the M4P has missing vulcanite, a dent and fog....& no meter. By the time you pay return shipping to a repair location & pay for a CLA...you're looking at 200 euro +. I have no problem using a camera w no onboard meter, or that is heavily used. But by your description the M6 sounds like a more reliable choice. The Summicron is now a cult lens, & though i've owned and used several copies..... i would make other choices if buying today.

Like what?
I want a compact and lightweight 35mm f2 or 2.8 lens

I've been buying and selling cameras for the past 7 years and used over 100 cameras in that time. If I got to choose only 1 from the bunch it would be the Leica M4-P and the 35mm Summicron V4 combo.

thank you but for the price that I wrote, combo (M4P + summicronv 35 v4 2500eur) vs M6 with fresh CLA + 2years warranty and better conservation 1800eur, isn't better the last one?
Obviously that I have then to choose and find a 35mm lens (if I would buy the M6 from the reseller).

I have the Ultron 35/2 and it's an excellent lens, almost identical in size/weight to the Summicron. You can find them used for around $650 or get the newest version (with metal focus tab) for $850. Having owned the 'plastic' Summicron I wasn't bothered by its build quality, but that was 20 years ago and I paid $500 then. Nowadays I would think twice about buying 'cult' lenses...those funds could be put toward better use for things like film, a darkroom, a used car...

Geez i was just looking at the sale prices in US for V4 Summicron. Glad I picked one up 20 years ago. Hell, buy them both and sell the M4P for 1K and you have the perfect set-up.

Aquila, They're all good lenses. You just have to pick one & start shooting. Whether it's the color skopars (2.5).... the new Ultron f2 or even the relatively small for its size Nokton version II f1.4 (which is lovely wide open). They all have good build quality.
