I picked up this very sturdy, high quality feeling tripod and pan/tilt fluid head today at the flea market for a measly $5. It has zero markings on it anywhere, but there is a very faded sticker on one leg that says American Made. The sticker is in an odd orientation, but right where you would expect a label to be, so I'm left wondering who made it, and what age it might be. Legs are a standard twist locking collar. Removeable spike feet with rubber outter cones.

Any help would be great!

Wonderful, thank you!

Sure looks like the same thing, the machining is pretty unique and now I just need to figure out how to remove the head on this and what will fit.

Its taller than my Manfrotto 3221, but has a narrower leg circle. Also the legs do no go further out like the Manfrotto. It is solid and heavy, good for macro stuff.

For $5.00 I just couldn't pass it up, I know someone who needs one so maybe I'll pass it on.

Yes, there is a standard hardware store pan head machine screw in the side of the collar (user must have replaced it). I think its a video head due to the very large plate and fluid dampened pan motion. Center collumn has a threaded stop on the bottom so it can be pulled out.

The collar for the pan/tilt control arm is broken so I am inclined to just replace the head, but might consider a fix for it if I can find out what plate fits it. It is trapazoid shaped. I will have to inspect it closer to figure out what is supposed to come off and what should not.

I'm thinking of giving it to a friend with a D3100, so it won't see a lot of weight. Should be more than adequite for him. I am not giving up my Manfrotto, though!

Either way, its pretty solid. I don't think it will break down anytime soon. My buddy needs a tripod mostly for product shooting for selling his stuff online. He doesn't do much else, but its a good start. The head seems like it could be a low cost item, it is cast aluminum or pot metal and pretty rudimentary. All the twist locks are in good working order, no corrosion, no dents.

Still trying to identify the head so I can see about finding a plate to fit, or I may just make one.

Thanx for the info!
