I have just taken delivery of an E+ Leica IIIG. The shutter release works well without the take up spool but as soon as its inserted the shutter becomes stiff in operation and does not return properly allowing the winding mechanism to erractically disengage.
As its under gaurentee but I'm not sure whether to send it back and get it repaired or ask for a refund and walk away as I worried it may indicate it has been abused. I am after a user not a collectors item.

Have you heard of this problem with the release ? Any thoughts ?

Chris

I don't think you can describe this as Excellent + when it doesn't work.

Hard to say, but it could be something as simple as some debris (film chip) near the advance mechanism. At the least, I would remove the spool, shine a flashlight in there and see if you can see any debris.

Or take it back to the seller and demonstrate the problem.

Yes point taken. I have had a good look inside and can't see any film floating around and it is curious that it works fine minus the the take up spool.

I'm sure they will take it back or repair, they are a very reputable delear. I assume this has slipped though the net !. I'm just unsure whether to have it repaired or refunded .

Apart from the fact it doesn't work its a nice camera..... er... I think I just answered my own question. I'll send it back ( they are a mail order company)

They do have another one ... I'll get that one.

Thanks for your help Ziessfan

On a brighter note I just bought a CV Ultron 35/1.7 so I'll play with that while I wait .

Make sure that your IIIg has the right take up spool.

The IIIg take up spool was the same as the ones used on the M1/M2/M3
