Canon LTM Help me Choose a 35mm for an Canon RF Article

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
I had both, and the Canon 35/2.8. The 35/2 is sharper, higher contrast, and somewhat swirly Bokeh.
The 35/1.8: more like the 50/1.2.

I ended up using my 35/1.7 Ultron LTM more, sold the Canon wides.
I sold my Canon 35/1.8 and got the Ultron. Mistake for me. I loved the Canon and disliked my copy of the Ultron. I wish the OP better joy with it than I had. I need to find another Canon personally.

I tried a VC 35/1.7 out in London last week - I saw it in a glass cabinet for £190 - but it had the dreaded haze. This copy is I just bought 'MINT' so I am hoping that is the case. The lens seems to sit second best to the M mount version for sharpness, but the test shots I took with the hazy version seemed like the f1.7 out of focus / background blur matched the 50mm f1.2 LTM really well.

It's so hard to find quality copies of the vintage lenses. I was really lucky with the 50mm f1.2 and I have been looking for over 2 months for a 35mm, but theyre all in Jaoan and I have to add taxes and VAT. A decent 35mm f1.8 is going to push £450....

I sold my Ultron to Sonnar_Brian and he's been happy with that copy as well, so I doubt my problem was haze. It and I just didn't get along. That's just how it is sometimes.

I think I wanted a look like that of the Canon and the Ultron just doesn't do that look. I've been happy with other CV lenses - I love my 50/1.5 Nokton Asph in LTM (1st Gen) and I had the 35/2.5 in the past and liked it a lot as well. But the Ultron and I never jelled.

The other one I think about getting is a Nikkor 35/2.5, probably in S-mount since I have both a Amedeo adapter and a Nikon S-2 (with plans for an S-3) as I expect it would be a delightful lens too.

OTOH, I've been spending all my spare toy money on Pentax lenses lately and having a rip roaring good time at that. My EDC right now is a K3 with a FA 35/2 AL mounted and HD DA 15/4 L, HD DA 20-40 L, SMC FA 50/1.4 & SMC DA 70/2.4 L in my bag. Pure APS-C DSLR fun.
