Help me choose a 'dog walking camera'!

Another vote for the Olympus Infinity Stylus MJU 🙂

Great little one-handed pocket camera. Lens is great! Got mine here for $40 bucks

+1 for the Oly Mju cameras. If you can, get the MJU-II with the wonderful 2.8 lens. Else, even a cheap zoom mju will make you happy.

Dear Fujilove,

That's my honest answer as a dog owner. The perspective would be interesting.

When I am with my dog, a he currently, as well as when I was with the she's that came before him, the dog gets my undivided attention.

I owe that to my dog.

I like that idea and yes, when we walk it's most definitely 'her time'. That's part of the reason I'd like something that requires zero messing about. She hates the cold too and starts shivering the instant I stop to fiddle with cameras (despite being wrapped up in a thick coat that probably cost double the one I'm wearing).

So as soon as there's a film GoPro I'll be right on it 😉

And yes, I realise I forgot to state I only shoot film in the original post - sorry.

There's a lot of love for the original Mju here. With the II getting all the attention I'd never even looked at the first version. Seems like another that would fit the bill. Someone on the Flickr group says the autofocus is practically silent, which would be a bonus. That's something I loved about my old Hexar.

First, teach your dog some manners 🙂 It's worth the effort.

Frank

She's an elderly Whippet and isn't too well, so teaching her 'new tricks' is pretty much out of the question I'm afraid. She now potters about and we make the best of her no longer being able to run.

The answer is easy. Do it in these steps:

1) Buy an auto everything camera that has a cable-release socket.

2) Buy a bulb-operated cable release and screw it into the camera.

3) Load a film into the camera.

4) Put bulb of cable release in your mouth.

5) Balance camera on your head.

6) Bite bulb when you want to take a photo.

Simples!

iPhone is good because it serves dual purpose:
Camera
Flashlight - to illuminate your pup's contribution in the dark while bagging it! I never leave to walk my dog without it.

Or, put the bulb in the dog's mouth. 😉

A Kodak Motormatic perhaps?

A Kodak Motormatic perhaps?

Dear fujilove,

It's not a great camera but if you set the zone focus in the right zone and crank the spring motor it is definitely capable of pleasing results.

I have 2 and they are almost as old as I am but their meters seem to manage to capture usable pictures after nearly 50 years.

On the dog side I had a greyhound pointer mix. She could be fidgety but where I live I had the luxury of letting her roam, and she did that quite often. Now that I have a pitbull I have to exercise more caution but I still let the boy run with care.

I'm a dog person through and through, and I hope you can find a camera that will let you enjoy your walks with your dog.

Konica Big Mini is a good one, but has also become quite pricey recently.

Some of these have not aged well, e.g. broken ribbon cables to the back,
resulting in non-functional controls and LCD indicators.
