Help me choose one...

I am thinking about thinning out the number of my lenses. 35/40mm is seldom used, so one of three must go. I will definitive keep the 35/2.5 color skopar, so I made some comparion shots with CV 35/1.4 sc and Rokkor 40/2 cle.
I must confess, the barrel distortion of the CV do not bother me.
Please tell me, which 2 of the 4 pics you prefer. All at f=2 on PolypanF@25 in ADX. No PP beside the crop.
Oh, of course there may be guessed which is which.

Seems to me like the top picture is from the Rokkor and the bottom picture is from the Nokton. I prefer the two pictures on the bottom.

The lenses are mixed up in each set? (i.e. one scene taken by two different lenses?)

I picked (a) for better contrast, although bokeh not as nice, I picked (d) for overall better sharpness.

At least that's my beginner's opinion.

B & D and I am guessing it's the Rokkor. Have you considered the speed in the equation? You'll have a 3.5 and 2.0 if you go this route. It makes more sense to stick with the same 35mm and have 1.4 & 3.5, but that's me YMMV 🙄

I asked, because I don't expected this result of the comparsion.
As Benny said, a/c is the rokkor and b/d is the nokton.
Personally I clearly prefer the nokton for the OOF rendering and the moderate contrast.
It looks, as the nokton wears the "classic" in the name with right.

Good idea, but I doubt I will use such a short FL for portrait.
Confession: It is the one stop what makes the decision.
I made the comparsion more or less to see, if the rokkor can change my mind with it's rendering.
But no, so it must go...

I'm predisposed to the Rokkor. I love the size and the feel of that lens, but I have to say that the Nokton looks better in these samples, better oofa and more open in the contrast. However, I do not like a lot of distortion in the 35 FL, but I don't see much of that here. You're sticking with the Skopar, which is a smart move. I'd keep the Nokton as fast 35 for a low-light kit and use the Skopar in an daylight-type kit.

Agree. The ergonomics of the rokkor is better. I don't like the aperture-"ears" of the nokton, I never found them on the first take while looking through the finder. I also like the rokkor tab more. But I think, it's a question of practice.

However, I do not like a lot of distortion in the 35 FL, but I don't see much of that here.

I haven't seen that much of distortion with this lens as I expected after reading about that issue here on RFF. The distortion is there, but not that much that it bothers me. And for low light scenes... even less. 🙂

I will keep the skopar mainly for my barnack which is becomming more and more my daylight camera.

Well, I dislike the 35 FL for portrait because it's perspectivical distortion... (Say you so in English?)
Not a problem in Your pic, because the subject is in the middle...

I like a and d, which is of course from different lenses? The contrast seems to me just right in (a) and a bit too harsh in (c).

All of this is quite subtle and does not really warrant keeping both of them. Just sell the one that fetches a better price.
