i never had any leaks before and only thing i changed in shooting is that i hanged camera in half case whole trip and before i always carried it in bag.
please help with this...

oh sorry i forgot to mention - it is M4. i dont change lenses - but it could be that i unscrewed it one time but not all four...

is it possible to make this kind of leak if i didnt have lens cap on and sun is strong even if i dont have holes on curtain?

here are details from first two - they look similar while other two are totally different.
it is also strange that it is not so strong when it have frontal sun but it is stronger when sun is paralel to camera like on second and fourth...
i examined curtains and there is no leak on them and no leak between them when winding...

The third photo looks like light getting around the light shield when no lens was mounted. I have had this trouble, and for an experienced technician it is easy to fix.

Hi,
Can you tell me if you have a lens with adapter in your cam when this hapened.
I ask because I have the same thing in a DD M3 and I think it is the LTM adapter.

Sorry for my english

I had a similar thing many years ago on a Leica M2 which took ages to track down, but turned out to be a loose strap lug on the body, which a repairer fixed quite easily. It was an intermittent fault, dependant on whether I'd had the camera around my neck or not - by doing so it increased the tiny gap and caused the fogging.

Light shield or back door. Half case has top of back exposed, that means bottom of frame.

and what is light shield?

also i dont think it is back door since leak is only inside frame... it is really strange because on fourth you see on the left side of the frame still have some space between end and leak which is not affected by leak.
also leak is paralel with left side and almost straight.

and what worry me is that third photo which have leak all along the frame...

Ok you have a adapter
I have this, is the same like in your pics, the same side and the shape, I think it was the adapter with a jupiter-12 .
Right now i have change the adapter for other, I have a cheap one and now a buy a voigtlander.
I am wait for finish the roll.

oh sorry i sent you pm while you were writing here - did you have a leaks like on 3rd and 4th photo also?
maybe we can put some tape around edges of adapter?

I have write you a pm
No only like the 1,2 and 4.
I think the tape is a good solution but i think it is a reflection from the adapter not a true leak.

Welcome to my world. I have the same problem with an M4.

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72753

I taped the back door with black paper tape and no resolution. I have been told it has something to do with the curtains. I'm going to bring it to Leica of NJ. I don't use an adapter, I never change lenses, and I only use a 35mm Summicron.

and what do you think about nunojorge idea that it can be from some internal reflections? i think he is on a really good way with it...

as i mentioned on a similar thread, i used to have an M3 that did the same thing whenever i left the cap off on sunny days. i had it checked for light leaks and the tech could not find the cause. now i only remove the cap when im about to shoot. no matter what leica i use , doesn't slow me down at all : )

i will try not to take of cap also.
i checked curtains with lamp and nothing passes , i also checked back with lamp and also nothing happen...

It kind of looks like the Microsoft Windows emblem, no? I would switch to a Mac and that might solve it :)

Seriously, it has a very distinct shape and I would guess that it has to do with the shutter.
