Hullo -

Inspired by several RFF folks, I've decided to try a PAW project for next year. Can anyone recommend a template or software or free server so clickable thumbs display on one page? (I already have a server if that's the best way to go.) Thanks.

I've also noticed some very interesting photoblogs, and I might try to launch one together with my 16 year old son so we can jointly document and reflect on 2005 as it unfolds. Recommendations there would also be really appreciated.

seen this one?

don,
don't know if you have seen this site but i thought of it when you mentioned starting a site with your son.
i like the format for sharing between 2 shooters.

can't really help as far as to where to set up a site, although i like the blog idea.

Don, can you clue me into exactly what the PAW is. From what little I have been able to discern, it has something to do with documenting 2005 through photos. Thanks, Rick

Rick - Sorry for the abbreviation. PAW is Picture of the Week, a project where photogs and wannabes (like me) commit themselves to posting one photo every week. I'd guess you already know what a photoblog is, and I'm thinking about creating one with my son so we'll have something to talk about and do every week for the next year; if you have a teenager, you know what I mean #^\/

Don, I'm guessing Joe is suggesting this very site, RFForum. Set up a personal Gallery and have at it. Seems to me someone on CVUG mailing list even suggested RFF as a PAW site. I am considering doing a PAW also, just wondering about how I'd go about it.

I'd have to shoot at least a roll of film each week... Set aside one (RF) camera for the project, or not...

I do think it's a worthwhile endeavor for self-improvement.

The paw bug striking again :)

I'm happy you've decided to start one Don, so far I've seen photo.net used as a paw gallery so I think doing it here in the rff gallery would be perfect as well. I finally decided for a pbase account as sometimes I want to 'steal' bandwith directly linking my pics there and I think that wouldn't be too fair if done with the RFF server...

Also the pbase gallery comes in handy for 'emptying' the drawer when I have a bunch of images that I don't consider good enough for the forum gallery.

There are diy templates available out there http://www.asc.upenn.edu/usr/cassidy/leicaslacker/paw/ and you may check some freeware software to easily generate image galleries, some of them really make a great work. I'll edit this later with some references.

My personal experience is it's really worth to try it. Of course there are bad weeks when it's really difficult to come up with something decent enough to post :( but that's part of the process as well.

Just now I'm having a hard time to find energy to shoot something, so in fact I'm happy to be half a collector as well, or I'd had completely disconnected with photography a couple weeks ago...

There are always peaks and valleys.

A Picture A Week sounds great, It´s a personal challenge, but are there any guidelines, some rules? I´t would be very interesting to see arround many PAW´s.

Thanks all. I only post rangefinder photos in RFF gallery, and that's one reason I'm thinking about alternatives. I like the PAW galleries where you can see thumbs of the whole year on a single page. As for rules & guidelines & other PAW galleries, Matu, you can click on Oscar's (Taffer) PAW in his signature. After enjoying his gallery, click "search" and type "PAW".

hey ian, welcome!
i've been a fan for awhile now.
i like (the idea of) your shared site.

hope to see you around here more.

still surprising to me everytime i hear that we have fans. the great thing about sharing a site, though, is that if it fails you can totally blame the other person, while if it succeeds, you can credit yourself for the success.

now that i've found the place, i'll certainly stick around and lurk a bit.

I use my-expressions.com for my photoblog. I plan to add a PAW soon to it. They cost a few bucks a month but have many templates or allow you to make your own.
If you go to mine you will see one image (large) and 5 smaller images (recent), if you click on the icon "click here for more images" you will see all of them thumnailed.
