Well, my zorki 4k has some shutter problems i would say, i can't tell you more of it so i made a video in hoping that you could help me: (only last 30 seconds)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAQOwNZN6to

Model : Zorki 4k

I can't wind the shutter completely and i don't know why, it was working perfectly before...

Before you ask, i never changed speed before cocking the shutter....

This is the only camera i've got to take pictures so i'd be extremely happy if you could help me to repair it ..

Thanks a lot for your help

Make sure that the shutter is truly cocked. It looks like the curtains are not fully to the right. It may take more than one sweep of the lever due to a ratchet reset is a bit flaky at times. What is it that you were doing with your fingers between shots? It looks like you are intentionally defeating the ratchet.

If the lever is fully tensioned and the curtains are fully to the right and it fires without a gap, you may be looking at broken shutter ribbon.

it's a jam of some sort.

I have a Zorki-4 in bits right now, and I did notice that if you put the slow speeds escapement on wrong, the shutter may jam like shown in the video.

however, I haven't yet put the escapement on right... so I can't really help you. I'm sure someone else here knows...

cheers.

Well, I took my 4K out after my last post and can reliably duplicate the behavior on your video. With my camera, the steps to reproduce are (camera back off so that you can observe):
  • Fire shutter
  • Do a full swing of the wind lever and release it very gently, holding it against your thumb until it rests against the bumper on the body
  • Fire the shutter again
  • Do another full swing of the wind lever, noticing that the junction between the curtains stops before reaching the landing zone at the right end of the frame
  • Fire the shutter again and note that there is no gap between the curtains
  • Wind fully, fire shutter, and note that it does it again!
  • Wind fully and swing the lever a second time and notice that the ratchet catches to fully cock the shutter
  • Fire the shutter to confirm normal operation
As near as I can tell, the cause is related to the second step. On my camera, the lever needs to smartly snap back in order to properly reset the ratchet. Since this is difficult to detect, I have gotten in the habit of always testing with a second wind attempt before firing the shutter.

I can make another video if needed.

No more ideas from me. Something is out of sync and/or bent/broken inside.
