I've just bought a Nikkor 50/1.4 lens attached to Nicca 3S. The lens seems to be optically pristine but the front part of the lens seems to be slightly loose. By the "front part" I mean the main body of the lens containing all of the optics. This part can be pulled forwards relative to the rear part by almost 2mm and slightly rocked from side to side. Apart from that problem the rest feels fine, and the focussing and aperture controls feel smooth and precise.
Is anybody familiar enough with this lens to tell me what is causing this problem?

Sounds like the optical cell retaining ring is loose. Tighten it up and the lens should be fine.

Fantastic! Many thanks Jonmanjiro for such a fast response and for providing the photo.
You were absolutely correct. The retaining ring was very loose and gently tightening it has provided an instant transformation. You have restored my faith in RFF. Thank you again.

Glad to hear it was just a loose retaining ring!
