While using my R2A suddenly the film advance locked up and the shutter would not work. Changed batteries-same result! Can you suggest a quality repair person? I live in Indiana, USA
Thanks
...as I understand some Bessas do have shutter problem... they trap... allegedly they are complex dual copal mambo jumbo hi tech shutters...
...I do have a little problem with my R3A, sometimes after advance the shutter won't fire (it is rather inconvenient... = lost shoots), so I need to touch or just slightly move advance lever to make it work again.
I've had some similar shutter oddities too, and I've only had my used R2A for a few weeks. Sometimes it just doesn't seem to want to fire. It always seems to resolve itself quickly though. It's happened maybe twice, but it's enough to make me nervous. My bessa-r never had any issues.
I had the same issue with my R2a and ended up having to have it repaired. It wasn't a huge deal (not a shutter replacement), but I did lose the thing for a week.
Never had that issue with the mechanical shutters on my L or R2, though...
I've had the odd shutter issue with my R3a as well - a few months back the shutter fired two or three times as I advanced the film, without me touching the shutter button! As I advanced the advance lever, at the end of the stroke, the shutter fired all on it's own? Since then, touch wood, it's been fine for a roll or two. However it was un-nerving and I have been using my Leica IIIf far more since then.

I experienced the same problem last weekend with my R2M. When the film was finished I experimented a bit dryfireing the camera. It seems that when the advance lever has not made the full turn, the shutter is fully cocked but the release is still locked.
