Help !Souping 400TX (Tri-X) and others,D76, HC110 or...

Hi to all,

I need some suggestionsand experiences, going back to my own souping after 20 years 🙂)

Before I will switch back to Ilford with film and soup I first have to shoot my stock off, Tri-X in 35 and 120, , Agfa APX,Fuji 1600 and Fuji Acros 120.

Which develpper covers this mixture best ? My idea would be D76 ? What do the Fujis like best ? They are a PIA to soup.

Rodinal is sold out at the time here, no time to wait until it is available again from Maco.
Just the most versatile soup for that bunch I listed above . And the most tolerant, for the "newbie" 😀

I don't think you can go wrong with D-76 1:1. It is still one of the best solvent developers around.

Assuming there DB is correct they got 1x500 ml

D76 1:1 or Xtol 1:1 always work for me, though I use Xtol more. Here are a couple taken yesterday using Acros 120 developed in Xtol 1:1 ----

b= 4X 35 and 2X 120 maximum

b= none, I buy it all fro my German mailorder companies which have Kodak, Ilford, Foma, Tetenal on stock. Paterson is availabel from another mail order, expensive.

I won't start with Rodinal again tho I wish I could. But Rodinal will vanish when the stock is sold by Maco.

Now its about the stock ware in my fridge and I think D76 will do the job well.

No, did not ask them, did not know that company, thanks for the link !
Rodinal is out of biz tho sooner or later, don't know how large the stock is.
I doubt Maco will continue the production with the original receipt, but who knows ?
Sometimes wonders DO ahppen ! 🙂

I vote for HC-110 ... someone has to be contrary! 😉 Many years ago I switched from D76 to HC-110 as HC-110 gave me better tonal range/micro contrast, and I felt the acutance was better. I also like working with HC-110 as compared to mixing up D76. YMMV.

THIS changes the whole equation. Having a master cook besides I would lean on his advice for all questions, as he will get you out, afterwards, from the second and third row of questions. Bit by bit you will regain your self confidence and/or accuracy, and start making your personalized prescriptions.

But I'm willing to try Gene's recent suggestion - Xtol WITH a dash of Rodinal thrown in.
