Hello everybody!
I have a new computer with a Windows 8 system. For two days I've been trying to post some pictures with it on RFF but didn't succeed. Has anybody an idea about what I am doing wrong?
Thank you for your suggestions.
Erik.

Sorry no one knows how to use Windows 8... I tried, and I failed, and I decided I never want to try again.

Perhaps post a list of the actions you used to take and a note of where Windows 8 isn't responding as you expect? Then it may be possible to diagnose what's happening.

I tried the Internet Explorer that was installed on the computer, but with that I can't even write here on RFf. When I write, the letters are black and when I post my writing I get a message that my writing is too short and that it should be at least 10 characters!
I am now using Google Chrome, I can write, but cannot post any pictures.
What I did with my XP-machine when posting pictures was copying the picture in Flickr I and paste it here. I can copy the picture with both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, but I cannot paste it into a message here. I can paste the image in Internet Explorer, but when I hit the "post"-button, the picture disappears.
Please help!
Erik.

OK, try this:
1. go to Flickr
2. select the picture you want from the photostream
3. from the ... (dot dot dot) menu, select "view all sizes"
4. choose the size you want to post here
5. Right click on the picture, when it is displayed in the chosen size
6. Click "Copy image address" (it may read a little differently in Windows, I'm using a Mac)
7. Go to the RFF Message box, where you want to show the picture
8. Select the image icon above the message box (between the spectacles and the quote icon)
9. Paste the image address you just copied from Flickr
10. Post the message.
That should work. If it doesn't, open a Notepad and try to paste the image address. See if it looks like a valid URL.

I've had the same black letter problem with Windows 7. I fixed it by disabling "compatibility view". But the other thing I'd recommend is using a different browser, such as Firefox, which you should be able to use with Windows 8. I use Firefox on my Windows 7 PC at home, and it works fine.

I you're talking about copying images from Flickr over here to RFF, the old way of copying the image from Flickr no longer works (I used this method for a number of years, but it stopped working w/ the user interface change to Flickr last May). Here's what I do:
I) I go to Flickr, and open the image I want to copy on my screen
2) below and to the right of the image, look for the little box w/ an arrow pointing out. when you roll your cursor over it, you'll see "new ways to share". Click on that icon
3) up will pop a box with the HTML/BBC code. Select all and copy that code.
4) Go to RFF, and paste the code into the Reply box. You'll see the code at that point, but when you hit return the picture will appear in the RFF thread.

Maybe IE is not interpreting style information correctly?
Go to the home page on RFF, look at the lower left-hand corner and choose another skin for the site (mine is currently set to 'VBP Graphite Xpand - White Font'). See if selecting another setting makes a difference when you try to post messages.

Try using IE from the Desktop rather than the "Start" screen. It should behave more like you're used to.
If the look and feel of Win8 is too jarring, consider "Classic Shell" which not only gets you a proper "Start" menu back, you can configure it to come up with the desktop instead of the "Start" screen. It's at www.classicshell.net and find it helps.

MS IE not the best for RFF
MS IE not the best for RFF
As noted in other threads on RFF, this site has for some reason has always had problems with the various versions of IE.
I suggest you change to FireFox - at least for RFF.

This is typical behavior for IE on RFF, and I'll second the suggestion to try FireFox. Chrome should be ok too. I think there's a new version 32 out, might check your version for updates.Thank you for the reactions.

I'll third the suggestion. I had trouble even posting text messages here with IE under Windows 8, but Firefox works fine.

To Light & Love ...
I have a Mac Desktop which is a piece of cake...Easy
and a Sony Vaio with Windows 8 which Took me awhile to figure out....
My browser is Firefox
(you would have to be Crazy to use Internet Explorer
with all those pop ups and insanely paranoid warnings from microsoft)
For posting pictures , I use either flickr ( the same old way)
or post photos from my Desktop
To cut and paste on windows 8
I use the 'Touch' Keyboard on the screen / not keyboard
Hold down The 'Ctrl' button and the keyboard will show
Letter 'X' for cutting
Letter 'V' forPasting
Just paste in the Rff Message box
Hope that helps Erik

The best camera is one that still works!
I think windows eight was a secret plot to get people to switch to apple!
As Stephen said IE doesn't get along with RFF ... thank god for Firefox.

The first time I saw windows 8, I had no idea what to do, but worst of all is how invasive it is. It just does not get out of the way like older versions or OS X....

My wife has Windows 8 on her PC. They should have at least left the option of having a "Start" button. I hate it. Windows 8 without a touchscreen is a horrible, horrible thing.
