OK, I need some help here. I am a fan of the external flash. I HATE:bang::bang::bang: on camera flash. It's flat, the same and boring, everything photography should not be.
I love my GR-D but it's flash leaves me flat. So I want to use an external flash to bring more depth to the pictures. I dragged out an old Vivitar 252 and SL-1 (Vivitar Slave) and got them working. I put my GR-D on flash and tried some shots. While the flash fired I did not see any difference in the shadows. I ran some more tests and I was shocked to see. Even if I set the shutter speed to one second, flash on, pointed the flash towards the lens (in the frame) and got this shot. Now earlier tests were at more reasonable shutter speeds but the results were the same. No second shadow.
Now I know with a focal plain shutter you got the speed of the curtain and when the flash fires (bulb, electronic flash) and all. I know with a leaf shutter it can be the same thing, but a bit different. This one has me stumped. I see the second flash fire but it does not show up in the frame even at 1 second manual shutter speed.
I am looking for ideas of why (could the slave have aged?) this happened, what is going on (what type of shutter is in the GR-D?) inside the camera, help me out here.
I know I can get a new flash to put onto the hot shoe, but it's against my religion. I used to use a Vivitar 192 of camera with a pc cord for years and still love it.
Do I just need to suck it up, increase the medication and move on? HELP!
Thanks.
