Help with Omega Super Chromega D, DichroicII

Some time ago I purchased an Omega Super Chromega D XL. I just got around to setting it up and creating what will become my darkroom. My problem is that I can't see how to lower the head all the way. The lower bar that supports the lower arms for the head won't lower past the top of the column as can be seen in the accompanying photos (one from the front and one from the back. What is wrong or what am I missing? I really want to use this beastie and would appreciate any help. It's probably obvious, but I am missing it.

The first photo is from the front and the second from the back. Both show the the bar just above the column. When it is lowered just a bit more, it contacts the top of the column and won't lower any more.

Go to your photo and click on it (after clicking on the thumbnail). This will pull up a menu of Actions on the left top. Select All Sizes and then get your photo to the size you wish. Right click the photo and then click Copy Image Location (or something similar). go to your post here and type in

at the last. Should work then.

Thanks, I will look that over. Not sure if it will answer the question, but hopefully so. The problem is that the rod contacts the top of the column and won't allow it to drop lower. May by looking to see if it was properly assembled I can work something out. Thanks again.

As it is now, this is a far as it will drop:

I'm assuming you have loosened the knurled locking set screw at the lowest right hand corner of the sliding assembly, the head assembly is spring counter-loaded and the easiest way to lower the assembly is with the crank just above the afore mentioned locking set screw.

Given the strength of the spring counter-load to offset the weight of the condenser housing and lamp head/variable conderser housing, you may have to pull pretty hard to lower the negative carrier/lens bellows stage by itself without the rest of the weight.

Thanks. Yes I do that to move the head/negative stage assembly with the crank. It still won't desend below where the cross bar hits the top of the column.

Also, when you mount the column to the base you will find it balances much easier if you have the head completely lowered, down just as far as it will go and locked down with the knurled set screw.

But the problem being it wouldn't go lower. Luckily I had my daughter's fiance to help hold it while I screwed the bolts in.

I will check out what you said. It might be the answer.

Anyone else that has an idea, please let me know.
