I was just flicking through posts and came across this.
"Most of my lenses are 1m, but I have a few that will go closer (the VC 21/4 is marked to .5m for instance).
The RF mechanism on the Canon P disconnects at .7m though. So coupled focus is not possible closer than that".
So this means i can not take pictures within 7 meters, so no close up portraits ? .
Many Thanks Kane.

The best camera is one that still works!
You can but you'd have to scale focus which would be tricky at such a short distance.

.7 of a meter would be the minimum focusing distance of the rangefinder of the Canon I would imagine. As said the rf mechanism will disconnect at any lesser distance than .7 even if the mounted lens has the capability
to go closer. From memory my 25mm Zeiss disconnects below a similar distance on my Ikon.

Anything below .7 of a meter is not rangefinder territory ... if you wanted to consistently shoot closer than this you'd need an SLR.

.7m stands for 70 centimeters, so I don't think there will be any problems. Good luck!
