Try starting the Image Capture application. The camera doesn't appear as a detected device on a Mac.
Even better buy a card reader - makes things a lot easier.

I just put the SD card into a SanDisk USB adaptor. My Mac recognizes the adpator just fine.

a SD card reader do the job.... otherwise check your USB port is working
it happened to me before with other cameras (i'm still waiting for my M8), usually because the battery is dead or etc...

The M8 does not appear as a disk on the Mac
Plug camera into USB, and then import the images using Capture One, Lightroom, Bridge. Any of these and many others will recognize the M8

Also, make sure you have the latest update of any Apple software you may be using. Earlier versions of iPhoto and Aperture could not recognize the Leica DNG files. Current versions can.

You can always go to the Apple Menu and click on "About This Mac" and then look inside "More Info..." to see what's showing up in the hardware section or under usb. You should be able to see your camera there.

Don't download through USB. Not only do you get this kind of problems, an unexpected power surge on the USB port (rare, but it has been known to happen) will damage the electronics of your camera. If you insist, do use a surge protector in the power line of your Mac or PC. Card readers cost next to nothing and are very light and compact, so there is no reason not to use them.

... and are about twice as fast at transferring images than using the M8's USB connection.jaapv said:Card readers cost next to nothing and are very light and compact, so there is no reason not to use them.
