Here's a bag thread for you...

Hey, everybody. Long time, no see🙂. That's what happens when I've been working.

Anywho, I'm actually working in my career field after that 5 months of "funemployment" (yaaay!), but I'm on the road a lot, so I need to carry stuff with me. I'm using either a Domke F5xb or F2, plus a separate laptop bag. That's one too many for my taste...

Here's what I carry:
Nikon D90 (no grip)
wide lens (like a 12-24mm... coming later)
Tele lens (80-200/2.8 or the like)
A prime or two (think 35/1.8, 50/1.8, etc.)
A flash (SB-600 right now)
A Lenovo T420 14" laptop with flush battery (no ext. battery, no slice, etc.).

What I like in a bag:
Simple design (I like Domke bags)
Canvas and metal hardware (leather accents aren't too bad, I guess)
Shoulder or messenger-style
Tan/sand-colored, occasionally olive (but don't like the USGI look), gray or blue.
Under $150 in price.

What I don't like:
Nylon or all-leather bags
Black or weird patterns
Backpacks and sling bags.

There, go wild and spend my money for me 🙂

Currently carrying an M3+lens, Leica R4+lens, Leica IIIF +Lens, and all kinds of film, moleskine notebooks, accessories, tools and still have more room including room for an iPad. Mind you, all of these are in-storage if you know what I mean. When I am out shooting, I configure the one or two camera bodies as the task may require. Otherwise, I take just one camera, one lens and the light meter.

Lately, I am finding the loaner X1 to fit in a mini waist pack with the IIIF or M3 on my shoulder using the strap across the chest.

BTW, can't help you with the price, but for the quality and versatility, another $75 is well worth it.😉

I wouldn't want to put that weight on one shoulder. I keep my iPad, Kindle and Air in a very slim Targus backpack and my camera(s) in the smallest shoulder bag for the job.

Well, it's nylon and too inexpensive for your budget, but the Osprey Flap Jack Courier can handle all that (I got one in black, but it comes in other colors). I wouldn't want to carry that load all day, but the shoulder strap is surprisingly good (good thing, too, since it's not removable).

I use it with a Tenba photo insert (something like http://www.tenba.com/products/Messenger--Removable-Photo-Insert.aspx#specifications) to keep the photo gear organized.

I'd use the Domke F-5XZ waxwear bag for the camera stuff, and anything else for the laptop. I wouldn't carry it along while shooting. It'd be able to hold everything except for the flash or tele photo lens (gotta be one or the other, not both). It's not even that much cumbersome than the F-5XB you have, and yet it can take a lot more of stuff.

I have that bag (F-5XZ) for my Sony NEX kit, but I use to have a D90+20mm f2.8+35mm f2+50 1.8 + 55-250 + accessories in there. It's a tall bag, so it'll probably hold the 80-200mm. It's not very deep though, great for urban environments, so you don't bump into everyone.

If you want to put everything photographic, the Domke F-3X would be better. Then again, don't overload the bag you carry to shoot with. The F2 is nice, but overkill for your camera gear.
