Hexanon 50 vs Zeiss Planar vs Summicron

My choosing the 50mm f/2 M-Hex was easy: since I was building a system around a pair of Hexar RF bodies, and one of those bodies came in a "kit" with the 50 and small flash, the deal was set. (And, since I wanted all the lenses I used to be in the same optical "family", that set the die for the choice of 28 and 90 lenses as well.)

All the lenses here are in the category of "mighty damn good", give or take a split hair or two.

The photo below was taken with the 50mm M-Hex. More important: this man once had something vital to say about shooting versus talking...

I have never tryed anything else on rangefinder but planar ZM and I love it 🙂 most probably going for c sonnar 50 in near future, just for 1.5 and slightly smooth look (would love it with new portra) but for daylight planar is my lens!

What version of 'cron was used for the chair photo, and you wouldn't happen to recall aperture would you?? Thanks!

Appreciate the link, Ray. However, I am not sure how representative that particular shot is due to the toning that I applied. This shot may be a better sample, with less processing.

And finally, the Summicron, sharp, but you need to be careful of the background.

I loved the Hexanon, but ended up selling it and keeping a tabbed summicron. Why, because I have gotten used to the tab on my 35/2 ASPH - the common handling makes the shooting more natural for me, especially with prefocusing. In the end, getting the shot quickly was more important to me than any subtle differences in the optical rendering. Whichever you choose to keep will be fine, they are all very fine and capable lenses.

and here i was thinking of selling my 50/2 zm lens in favour of the 50/1.5 zm...

You know, I never liked the 50mm focal length either, until I got a ZI. Then I started shooting with it about 70% of the time. Even when I had my M3 I didn't appreciate the 50. That being said, I have a hard time keeping a large variety of the same lens. Yesterday I had four, but today I'm down to two.
