took me many months but i finally managed to get it working.

ok so here it is, the hexar AF custom battery grip mk1:

it features a 2300mah 11.1v lithium polymer battery offering 250% more capacity than the original. (in reality it self discharges faster than the camera can actually draw power)

the dc-dc converter is capable of accepting any dc power ranging from 3-38v so you can run or charge the camera off anything from a cell phone charger to a car battery and without any external charger (tiny crocodile clips are tucked inside the battery compartment)

apart from increasing the susceptibility to weather damage, increasing the size and weight, decreasing the battery life, increases the change of you blowing your camera by an irregular input, covering the tripod mount, stopping the camera back from opening and removing any stealth ability it does actually give you another place to put your hand if you find you cover the AF beam :D

so if anyone is intrested in making one for themselfs let me know and ill make a step by step build guide, should cost around $30 + some tape for attachment.

Sorry, what was the reason to build this? The batteries of my Hexar seem to last forever. I think it's the 3rd or 4th battery from the purchase of my Hexar and that was in 1998. And it does not look very nice. I think if you try to step into a plane with that, they won't let you because it looks like a bomb.

good point, i should add that to my list of negitive features.

and this thread should explain why i had to build it: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84809

Cool! People may laugh now, but wait until 2CR5's are harder to find, and you'll be the Yashica-Guy of HAF's for battery adapters!!

Could you make a mains-powered version? I'm worried my battery might run down on cold, rainy days, and that could be just what I need .
