Hi,
I recently acquired a Hexar AF. Last night I put the flash unit on top waited for it to charge up, but rather than the light going green, it just made this loud pop/bang sound. This sounds bad to me. Is it?
I have just got it back from a repair guy who fixed the sticky shutter problem for me ....hmmnnnn

It's probably not related to the camera repair.
The flash is probably not worth having repaired.
Good used HX-14 flash units usually sell for around $30 USD.

The most bizarre thing happened here. After reading this post (thank you Chris) I made a quick scan of ebay, didn't do anything about it, and then put it out of my mind. Then today, the postman rings the doorbell and I get a package, from the UK, with no info inside it, containing - yes, A Hexar AF flash unit.
This is Twilight zone stuff. All I can think of is either
(a) I bought one and then forgot I did so - this is unlikely though as I an find no trace of it on my cc or ebay account.
(b) Someone just sent me one?

"Flim? You want flim?"
I guess it had to be a friend, since who here would have your full name and mailing address? Or... as you yourself suggest - ebay amnesia!

Right.
I was going to tell you any Nikon flash will perform fine on the Hexar AF, specifically the SB-30 which is small and all that,
but it seems I do not need to.
Been trying real hard to visualize/materialize a Kodak Medalist II here just now, so I'll be watching the mailman for the next seven days or so to see whether that helped anything
