hexar AF problem

i have put a roll through my hexar AF and it worked fine but now im trying to put another roll in but the spool on the right is turning in both directions when it used to only turn one way like it should.

also when i put a roll in and turn it on it trys to pull it on but fails then the aperture goes to 22 then to 2 then it crashes and [0] flashes and it wont stop even if you switch it off. you have to take the battery out.

i can stop this happening if i open the back while its trying to load a film then all the AF and aperture and everything works again until i try to load a roll.

any ideas how i can fix this? thanks

Did you shoot the first roll to extend, and had the camera rewind it?

Any chance the rewind button on the top (used to rewind mid-roll) still is partially depressed?

Photographers have reported depressing that little button too far with the tip of their pen, causing it to get stuck under the rim of the top plate. This causes erratic behaviour from the camera.

Also, try leaving the battery out for a full 24 hours. On occasions, the camera seems to reset itself when left without juice for a longer time.

Can't say I have encountered this probelm before, if any of this solves it (or you figure it out yourself) I'm most interested!

it got half way through frame 37 and rewound itself, none of the buttons were sticking because i took it apart to try and see the problem and even with the lid off it was still doing it.

however, i found a fix.

1. take the battery out and the film if its in. (you need to do this because the camera has no functionality, you cant even turn it off).
2. either wait for the capacitor to empty or depress the shutter while its on so that the LCD fades out.
3. making sure its in the "off" position put the battery back in.
4. pull the catch out on the side of the camera so you can open the back quickly.
5. turn it on and wait, first [0] shows then it will start flashing then the aperture will go from 2-22 then you will hear the motor that winds the film on, at the point you should open the back of the camera. (if you don't you will have to take the battery out and start over).
6. close the back and depress the shutter all the way, if you opened the back in time it should focus and function as it should (make sure you do this before you put a roll of film in as it needs to wind on without film in it otherwise as soon as you do put a roll of film in it will go back to complete dis-functionality).

urghh still having problems.

for some reason the film spool thingy is still turning both clockwise and anticlockwise. :bang:

and now my hexar is draining batteries really fast, either that or i got 2 dead batteries.

i bought two new panasonic 2cr5's dated 2019 and the first one lasted half a roll and im a few frames into the second battery and its already below 6v and flashing the b.c every time i turn it on. it wont work in the cold at all.

can someone do me a huge favor and put a roll of film in their hexar but without enough film out to wind on and tell me what the camera does? i need a healthy camera to work out how to fix my sick one. 🙁

I did this a few times before... the camera will try to load the film, so you will hear the motor winding, then it will stop after about 1-2 's...
And the figures on the lcd screen will be flashing...
