Hexar AF viewfinder photo

Just a random post for anyone who hasn't handled one of these beauties before... The top and left brightlines move on half-press to indicate parallax, and the gap in the top right diagonal line moves to indicate distance.

The thing I hate about the AF viewfinder is that it's really dark compared to my Zeiss Ikon viewfinder or a Leica viewfinder. The functionality is great though.

Haha, it's my fiancé's artwork. :)

I haven't found the AF viewfinder to be noticeably dark, but then again, I've never tempted my bank account by looking through an Ikon. :)
 
Thanks for this. I have one of these and I've read the manual, but I didn't ralize the top right distance cleverness till you pointed it out.
 
i think the non centralised top brightline would annoy me a bit while shooting, does it interfere with centralising the shots or am I just so bored that I'm actually bringing this silly detail to light? :)
 
I never noticed that! Usually I use the center cross mark to center my shots. However, it doesn't move for parallax, so you have to keep that in mind.

From my experience, I think the guys at Konica put all their wisdom in the camera, and had none left for the manual..:rolleyes:
 
Kind of of-topic but;
I also have a Hexar AF, love it, will never sell. Was thinking, I wonder why the brains of Konica didn't put a 'Silent Mode' in the Hexar RF as well, would be easy wouldn't it? I see no point in using the Single 'S' mode as it generates more noise then the Continuous 'C' mode, so I wonder why they didn't make an Silent mode where the shutter fires, but doesn't advance frame until you let go of finger, and when it does, it advances slowly, like the Hexar AF, would be perfect!

Now, if only the photo community had people good with "Hacking" skills that could re-program the Hexar RF CPU to put my mentioned SILENT MODE where 'Single Fire' (S) mode is now.

If the story is right, the silent mode that was on the first version of the Hexar (black) was some kind of copyright infringement, and was therefore removed from later models.
The removal was apparently through reprogramming the camera chip, and some have found the way to program back the silent mode in the later cameras.
Installing a silent mode on the RF would mean instal a feature that was never intended to be there. It might be harder to do, or maybe the motor is not silent, no matter at what speed it works.

What do you mean? The shutter in Hexar RF is very quiet also, I was thinking of the motor winder in the Hexar RF, it would only advance once you have let go of the shutter button and it would advance slowly, create less noise.

Interesting about the motor itself not being able to do it slowly regardless of CPU input, still, could make it so that the motor wouldn't advance to next frame until you have removed finger from shutter no? Surely.

I mean, if the camera is in single mode, that should be the case, right?

I mean that the AF has the leaf shutter inside the lens while RF has the "huge" metal shutter for example as M9 or Zeiss Ikon ZM or Bessa or Nikon/Canon/Pentax whatever DSLR. It is not only meter of motor noise but of the shutter noise and size as well.


What do you mean? The shutter in Hexar RF is very quiet also, I was thinking of the motor winder in the Hexar RF, it would only advance once you have let go of the shutter button and it would advance slowly, create less noise.

Oh yea I see what you mean, yepp, still should be more silent if the motor didn't kick in immediately though, would be a great bonus, and it creates less vibration then Leica's cloth shutter since it weighs less so a bit easier to use on slower shutter speeds.

Now if only I could come in contact with one of the Hexar RF engineers...
 
And also dont forget the sound insulation of the camera body;)
