Hexar RF still being serviced?

DeoxIt de-zero'd it?

DeoxIt de-zero'd it?

Yeah, sounds vaguely familiar. :)

Video posted, my Hexar acting up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCqh6mtnvQ4

So, here is some cautious optimism. After recording the movie last night, I applied some of the DeoxIt to the switch. With the back open I used a toothpick to push down the button (opening up the cavity around it), and applied 4 or 5 drops of the 100% stuff via the "needle" dispenser I purchased it in. I left the camera lens/face-down on the table to let gravity take it into the interior of the switch. The DeoxIt specs says that it is plastic-safe.

So far, two passes this morning with a "dummy" roll, shaking, pressing the back and power cycling the camera as I did on the video, and so far no "zeroes".

Time will tell. (Is it really fixed? How long will it last, how often will I have to do this?)

Cross your fingers. It would be nice to be back to only worrying about the rangefinder alignment staying "in" and back focus. :)

Raid, let me know if you still want to sell Matt's Hexar. :)

Bill, congrats on your home fix, hope it holds!

I might do the same, though I'm on a "track" of warranty re-repair at Precision; they're consulting on the matter and I expect to hear from them Monday about returning the RF for a 7th time.

Camera shipped off today to Precision with their pre-paid label for Next Day Air. Back to dealing with Jillian Gutkowski again, and she says the back switch is an easy job. I recall mentioning on its second trip to them that it was acting like the back had been opened and closed. Oh well... I sure do hope this time is the last.

...and she says the back switch is an easy job....

hmmmmm... last time I had the bottom off to look at that switch, my thoughts were that it would be substantial disassembly and effort to get to it and replace it. She may not know of what she speaks.

Likewise, I hope she is not reading this thread and just going to spray some DeOxit in it. :)

btw, almost through my 3rd roll with no resets... crossed fingers.

I have just had a problem with my hexar today.

Shot till the 10frame, LED on 10 started blinking. Assume that would be the film not feeding into the spool properly, I sacrificed my film, open up the back & loaded in new film.

After loading in, the camera would forward itself to the first frame as it always does. At 1/2 press shutter, light meter works like it is supposed to but down on full press, shutter refuses to fire & "10" flashes again!!

Tried it with fresh batteries, play around with it, still flashes "10" seems like it is stuck in limbo over at "10" anyone had this problem as well? Any remedies?

Sorry to hear of your problem, Royale; that's a different sounding one. But probably related to Issy's and mine. Mine would flash "00" in confusion when it couldn't feed more film at the end of the roll and the counter had reset.

Bill "Issy" I hope your HRF is still behaving itself. Mine is still shown as "In Repair" at Precision.

Perhaps this might clear up the error-code mystery (a bit).

I recall getting a "10" error code on my first Hex RF two months after purchasing it. Got sent in (Konica-Minolta in NJ), came back, and that was it. The only other hiccup the camera suffered was a result of shooting with flash, with dirty hot-shoe contacts, where the camera would spontaneously rewind the film well before reaching the last frame. Once I cleaned the contacts, the problem disappeared.

Near as I can recall, Hex #2 hasn't had any problems.

Thanks! Standby misoperation it says?

So it is actually a program error? Am in Singapore, looks like I gotta find a place in Asia to send this to.

Any idea how Konica Minolta fixed that? I just send an email to Sony Singapore, asking if they are able to do it or do I have to send this back to Sony Japan.

just an update.

I sent my Hexar RF to Sony servicing center yesterday. Printed a copy of the error codes of the Hexar & handed it over to the service staff there as well.

Expecting a call from them in about 3-4working days to let me know if it can be serviced & the cost of it before they go ahead with the repairs.

Good luck with Sony, Royale!

Update for me too... I just checked my "Repair Status" with Precision, and I see as of yesterday after 26 days "In Repair" my HRF is "Out of Repair" and "Ship Confirmed" with a UPS tracking number for 3-Day Select. Man I hope they got it right this time, and that this time will be the last time.

Good luck, heard your horror stories with Precision.

I hope Sony calls me up today, if not, I'll just call tomorrow to check on them guys.

Was told 3-4working days for evaluation. about 10 working days for repair.

I just hope this can be fixed, really like the Hexar alot.

I just got a call from Sony Servicing center.

Technician told me they couldnt do the servicing here in Singapore & they had to send it back to Japan.

I nearly chocked on my coffee in the office when he told me it was SGD500, which prob is about USD357 for repair charges. Estimated of course.......

Because the technician over here cant confirm what parts need to be replaced, so it could be cheaper. He did how ever said that it seems like just an error in the circuitry.

I'll most likely go ahead with the camera being sent to Japan!

Thanks for the updates. It;s great that Singapore Sony still handle the service (I mean they help to arrange sending the camera to Japan for a service). For me, the price is not too high. At least I know my RF can get repaired if it has any issue in the future.

I just told Sony Singapore to go ahead with the plan to get it shipped to Japan & repaired there, technician told me it would be shipped this coming Monday.

Pray hard that it is just minor repairs needed really but he did inform me that they would inform me of the cost involved before they go ahead with the repairs in Japan.

Just a question, is there any like cut off amount where for repairs?

For example repair charges maximum are capped at let say $500, so if repairs actually cost $700, only $500 is capped for the Hexar RF?

Technician also told me it would be 2 weeks for the camera to be back :( Just cant wait for them to sort it all out really, I really like the Hexar RF.

That's a hefty chunk of change, even for a very nice camera. Konica RFs can't be more than 10 years old, but there doesn't seem to be a pattern to the problems reported here on RF.

Well, I don't know... My Hexar RF is still "broken" after 7 repair trips to Precision. I was really hopeful this time that concentrated attention to the back-open switch would finally solve the problem. Their repair note says "mechanism plate and associated items repair" but it's behaving just the same as before. As might be expected I'm very very disappointed. How can they keep sending it back with the problem so easily reproduced?

Sorry to hear about your camera problems Doug. The entire sage has been one sad post after another. Each trip to Precision seems to be a revolving door of malfunctions. I can't imagine sending a camera back and fourth 7 times to achieve practically nothing.

Mine is on it's 4th trip back. a Focus issue again. Infinity way off. I sent it in the first time for a back focus issue. Focus keeps moving around with each trip. I could probably do it myself, but I have about 4 months invested and I'm resolved to have them get it right.
Again friendly folks to talk to, but???
Lucky I have a few other cameras laying around and just bought a nice M6 to add to the family
