Hexar RF still being serviced?

Where in the world do you live? In the UK, you can still get servicing and repairs done - but you'll have to Google the company handling this now, I sold my RF.

I sent my RF to Sony in Tokyo with a #11 flashing sign in the LCD. Weber Repair didn't have the parts to fix that particular problem, Sony did. They charge a flat $200 for any repair, I was told.

sony.com -> service and support -> electronics -> repair -> konica minolta -> krf-hexar

I followed up on this with a call to Sony. They say there is only one official repair shop (in US?) for Konica Minolta products, including the HexRF.

It is:
Precision Camera Repairs
4 Anngina Dr.
Enfield CT 06082
888 746 8612

(That street address worries me a bit.)

I had a cla by Greg Weber and was pleased with the result. But Greg doesn't have the parts necessary to do all repairs.

hmmmm... I had a Nikon F100 that was consistantly underexposing that I decided to send locally (to Precision). After a couple of weeks, they determined it had to go back to Nikon Melville. (which I could have sent it in the first place).

Having a copy of the service manual for the RF, and knowing how little it says about what to do with a 10 or 11 code, I just wonder if faced with that code if it might be better to just send it to Japan.

That's not quite right (and I cannot imagine anyone offering a flat fee for any repair). I had a "11" shutter motor replacement done last week and the cost was around $150, took 3-4 days. They take the camera in and provide you with a precise estimate two days later and the work is done soon after. Could be done within a week I suppose.

Gotta love Japanese customer service standards.

Nikon does. Not a flat fee as such, but if the cost of a repair exceeds their predetermined limit, Nikon does not charge any more than that limit. In the case of a Nikon S3 2000, the limit is about 36,000 yen and in the case of a Nikon SP 2005, the limit is about 50,000 yen (I don't remember exactly). I think other camera manufacturers also charge for repairs using a similar system.

Yep, that's the info I've had for a while. At least someone's handling things on this continent at this point.

Other than one hiccup with one Hexar (handled under warranty by KM shortly before their exit from the photo biz), I've had no problems with either of my two Hex bodies. They've been quite solid.

It's a bit more than $200 ;) but the system makes sense: you want to encourage people to continue repairing the cameras. If the sky was the limit then people may think it is not worth it. If you have a ceiling then the customer knows "in the worst case this is what I will get hit with". Wish more things in life were like this :)

Alas, more times than not I've been charged the maximum so it certainly feels like a flat rate. Konica Minolta has the estimated repair cost for the Hexar RF listed here at 23,000 yen ($250)

The list may be quite outdated.. e.g. I just called to see if CRIS in AZ (listed on the Sony service website under krf-hexar) does indeed repair Hexars and they do not. Just fyi.

'Precision Camera' Repair for Hexar RF

'Precision Camera' Repair for Hexar RF

I just took out a repair ticket for a Rangefinder Alignment for a Hexar RF I bought on Ebay.

Will report back if the repair is successful. The online estimate was MORE than reasonable at $106.00 including return shipping.

I am hoping that, even is a part is needed, these folks will have it.

Update on my Hexar at PCR:

Camera returned with RF way out of alignment- it was fine when it left. I have an email out to them to see what they want to do.

Is RF alignment a DIY fix with this camera?? I'm guessing the little cover on top gets one into the RF screw?
