Hey folks, World Football Cup started

Girls and guys you don't understand Brasil. It was all an issue of tactics.
 
Some credit where it's due: Croatia has an excellent team. Brasil didn't have their best day but I'm sure they won't really care, they took the three points and I'm sure they'll be in better shape for the next games. It definitely wasn't a matter of tactics, their off-day combined with Croatia's strenght just gave them a hard time. Croatia's tactic worked most of the time, especially how they managed to stop Ronaldinho was pretty impressive, although the game would have been more fun to watch if he had been given some more space.

Yeah, the Swiss did well but that made the game the more boring together with the French. Ha.
ESPN in the US didn't do a good job either, highlighting Sweden on the European map when introducing the Swiss team :D :D
 
ahhh! Ukraine was terrible today. I cant believe that. damn. Its gonna be tough for them in the finals :)

some nice goals from Spain, though!

I would put France under disappointing (only game I watched this far) but for playing with almost the same players they won the World Cup in '98, they just played horribly bad.

England would have played better but apparently no one told them it's hot in Summer - blinkin' foreigners cheating again :D
 
Mexico, impressive? Not in the game I saw... They had trouble with Iran, of all countries!

ps. That penalty and red card in the Spain vs Ukraine game was totally undeserved, the foul (a very small foul at any rate) obviously happened outside of the box, so how on earth could it be a penalty?
 
I've been cheering for Italy before the 1994 WC, and i'm still a fan, can i help it?? Guess not...Now i'm happy and rested. I'ts been a while sicne the last time they secured a win in a world cup.

I hope CI and Ghana will qualify to the enxt round.
 
I listened to the last 20 minutes on my ride home tonight. One of the best broadcast of a power play I have heard in a long time. Wish I could have seen it.

Unusually weak? German team was by far stronger yesterday than Poland. In the second half, Poland didnt have a chance.

I thought Germany were excellent, except in finishing their chances. Poland defended very well for 91 minutes and were much improved since the Ecuador game. Probably the best WC game so far, even if only for the great stadium atmosphere.
 
What's that saying again? Can't remember who said it but it's something like...

"Football? A game played by 22 players, and after 90 minutes, the Germans win"

P.S. I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador in 1964-65. Love the country and its people. Costa Rica is nice too. Looking forward to today's game.
