Hey folks, World Football Cup started

My heart is with Argentina.

The match in a few moments. Remember the following: Problem number 1 of Argentina is individualistic super ego. Last World Cup they started declaring they are going to win the cup and nothing less. Therefore they awakened all possible lyons up to the poopies, everyone played against Argentina in the most defensive way, our guys didn't succeed to make a goal at the first half, this hyndering their superchampions ego, went crazy, and game after game were eaten for breakfast. :bang:

Therefore in order for Argentina to last this row, they must loose today !
In case they win, the ego orgy will start again. Humility Argentina, humility ! Let the lyons sleep, loose this game to get out of the hook !!!
Loose Argentina loose !!! :bang:

Argentina are a good team... but they wuill not win the World Cup. Because they no longer have 'the hand of God'. :p

HEY RUBEN, SHAVUA TOV,

In 2 hours, you got quite a buzz around your Mondial post...
What's this about Mike Goldberg doing a promo?!?
Glad you & your family had such a great time with the Mondial.
Sorry friend, I'm not much of a spectator sports fan.

There's a poll in RF General Discussion, with a list of cameras: Which FIXED LENS RF has the best rangefinder [patch]... and, I Mike add, the optics to go with it? I'd like to hear from you on that; who knows, soon, I may be in the market for another one :)

Argentina 2 - Ivory Coast 1

But I do agree with you Andy, we are going to loose, defeat or death, etc

I am extremely happy about the coolness, calm, low profile ego, team training the Argentinian coach has brought. He looks deadly serious and my moment of faith was at the first Argentinian goal, when this coach instead of raising his hands ala King Kong German coach, embraced all his stuff with the towels and so. It seems he doesn't want to go back to driving cabs.

From Israeli TV: "This time Argentina came humbly, they left all the noise and fire works to the Brazilians, therefore beware......"

Loose Argentina Loose, we are loosers ! keep it this way and don't start now with those press declarations...

As for the Ivory Coast team: what good a team, what a worthy rival ! I bless you brothers and hope you guys with us will be those going up from the House of Death for the next stage.

Hey, they have been teasing it for months, for those with XM Radio the World Cup Channel is now broadcasting 24/7 till mid July when this is all wrapped up. This is what I listened to most of my 3 hours in the car today. Then I caught a good part of the Stanley Cup game 3 tonight. I was hoping to hear Chuck Kaiton but had to settle for some network broadcaster.

I wonder if Sirius is broadcasting the World Cup. The TV programming schedule is very frustrating, as the games are mostly 9am, 12NN and 2pm EST. I wish I had TIVO.

I think it is exclusive to XM, but don't quote me on that.

and, perhaps, when we're finished with footbal we can all have a riot
Celtic - Rangers! Celtic - Rangers! Celtic - Rangers! :D

I thought England were rubbish yesterday. A few flashes of quality in the first half, complete rubbish in the second. They have a good team, but the coach is a fraud.

Best match I've seen so far (and I watched Holland/S&M this morning) was Argentina/Ivory Coast. Cracking game with no little skill and commitment. What made it really interesting was the complete contrast in styles. Hernan Crespo scored early and that bodes ill for every team Argentina comes up against. He's a very psychological player and when on form he is just sublime.

Personally I would like Brazil to win because of the way they play and because Ronaldinho Gaucho is on their team. However I was really impressed with Argentina, they have excellent balance, tremendous movement in the last third, and a brilliant creator in Riquelme. And they didn't even play Messi and Tevez. When they really get going they will be hard to beat and I fancy them to win it even though S. American teams don't do well in Europe.

My heart is with mother England, the results of the first game are promising. Soccer/football is unappreciated by the North Americans. I know for a fact Canada is in the wilderness for the next 20 years for World Cup football.

Whole tournament is ambigous to me.

Was offered to join the Hannover medical team for the Mundial as leading emergency medic (which I did voluntarily for the smaller Confed Cup last year), in charge of the medical staff, over a hundred people, and responsible for the whole stadium, 46.000 people per game. So I put my holidays in that glorious Mundial time. Then I realized that while FIFA officials are staying in ***** hotels all over Germany (€3000/night for a "suite" in the Berlin Adlon for example), I was asked to do the job on a voluntary basis - like my colleagues and every single paramedic in the whole tournament.

Now I have a nice and classic football holiday, feet up in front of the TV screen with beer and junk food. Better job.

I will also not stick out a single German flag the way my fellow countrymen are doing by the million.

If they don't do this on our national holidays and ceremonies, why should I do it now?

Jesko, a very provocative post. A lot of irony. You are obvious a fan, watching on TV, but got to see an uglier side of the event. Too bad things are as they are, but keep routing, this is a great event.

That is changing quickly in the US. With the large number of Mexican, Central American, and South American immigrants lving here, there is a greater interest in soccer/futbal. Here in Southern California several children's soccer leagues have been quite well-developed for the past decade and it is almost expected that all kids will play soccer after Little League baseball season has concluded; the adult soccer leagues are well-organized but tend to be informal and are dominated by those who speak Spanish.

Today there was great excitement among our Mexican citizenry (and non-citizenry)... they say Mexico was playing. I don't know if that was true or not, but that's what I heard.

Brian, there are a lot of hot beds in the US, and you are right the adult interest is growing, perhaps faster and more lastingly than the youth interest. I heard some talk today that in fact most kids in all soccer programs across the country tend to drop out at middle and high school ages and then come back in later years. The discussion was that there are so many choices, so many things for kids to do that without the singular cultural obsession on soccer as there is in many countries around the world the sport will continue to grow here, but not as fast as some think it will.
