Real men play contact sports, like hockey, Aussie rules football, rugby, and American/Canadian football.....on this side of the pond we penalize the divers, not the the guy who accidentally bumped him.
Don't get me wrong, Soccer is a very popular sport in North America for women and the more timid kids....
It is not fair (or cool for that matter) to put something down because you cannot properly compete with it and understand its output. That is a sign of being weak.
There are - without a doubt - political reasons why the self-appointed US federal government cultivated a national sporting agenda instead of simply adopting the existing international ones.
Hurling, Rubgy, Cricket, Soccer ... I doubt you play these classic sports in your "american" schools - not because you don't wish to, but because another force doesn't want you to.
Wake up, duuuude.

Was offered to join the Hannover medical team for the Mundial as leading emergency medic (which I did voluntarily for the smaller Confed Cup last year), in charge of the medical staff, over a hundred people, and responsible for the whole stadium, 46.000 people per game. So I put my holidays in that glorious Mundial time. Then I realized that while FIFA officials are staying in ***** hotels all over Germany (€3000/night for a "suite" in the Berlin Adlon for example), I was asked to do the job on a voluntary basis - like my colleagues and every single paramedic in the whole tournament.
Now I have a nice and classic football holiday, feet up in front of the TV screen with beer and junk food. Better job.
I will also not stick out a single German flag the way my fellow countrymen are doing by the million.
If they don't do this on our national holidays and ceremonies, why should I do it now?
Jesko
Jesko.... ?
My admiration for you only continues to grow.

Opahh, England...
Did you know Andy that Israeli PM only yesterday declared his "personal" symphaties for the Brittish team ?
Now I leave you the rather hard question of deciding if you think he is smart....

sorry I'm a little bit sick of the football championship.
It's quite overreacted here in Holland.
As a revenge, on our small poll at the work I've put the Czech as champions. Uh, the Orange guys got MAD at me

That's OK. It is a well known fact the the Scotiish supporters always support two teams. Scotland and whichever team is playing England.

Or not being a sissy-pants. Your call, I guess.
There are - without a doubt - political reasons why the self-appointed US federal government cultivated a national sporting agenda instead of simply adopting the existing international ones.
Um, what? I was unaware that the current US government adopted all the sports we US citizens enjoy today. Or perhaps you mean 100+ years ago, when we began playing baseball, basketball, and later, US-style football. I was unaware it was a conspiracy!
Hurling, Rubgy, Cricket, Soccer ... I doubt you play these classic sports in your "american" schools - not because you don't wish to, but because another force doesn't want you to.
You'd be wrong. Many schools, public and private, have rugby and soccer teams. In fact, soccer is so popular in the lower grades that mothers who drive their kids around to games in mini-vans have been dubbed 'Soccer Moms'.
Hurling? No, not so much. Cricket? Who has the time? On the other hand, we have Lacrosse.
Most of these sports are not much followed after school graduation. Americans tend not to care about Soccer, Rugby, or Lacrosse after they enter the work force, and most seem to prefer following basketball, (US) football, and baseball, with a little hockey thrown in for good measure. There's always golf, for the more sedate.
But the notion that the US should be more like the rest of the world and choose to like the same sports the rest of the world likes...ugh. And you know what? That's probably how most Americans feel about it. It has nothing to do with any federal government or any conspiracy. We're just not like you guys, and we're pretty happy about that in general. You're all cool and all, but we do what we like and you guys go do what you like. We don't need your approval to like our sports, or that of our government.
Wake up, duuuude.
Wide-awake!
