Oh no, you got it the wrong way round, it is an Italian conspiracy against international football, we even got Frings suspended with the power of the Berlusconi owned SKY (Murdoch might have something to say about it).
And yes, maybe we all have more important things to do than posting about football here, so what?

Nice story memphis. Howard's a bit of a dodgy goalie but I think United still harbor hopes for him. They've loaned him out for next season, to Everton I think. They play in Liverpool so he can just drive up the East Lancs Rd to his new job.

memphis said:I met this really nice guy who plays professional soccer - was told he played for Manchester United... So..... Being the opportunist, I asked him politely if I could take a picture of him and his girlfriend... He replied, "My girlfriend's at home, but you can take a picture of my wife and I..." very funny, nice, charming guy...
I decided to see if I could back up the fact that he's a pro soccer player... He had the build that it was plausible and it was told to me by a good source...
I found him today online...
His name is Tim Howard... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Howard
Really nice, we talked a small bit of sports and he was charming and a fun guy... so, I'll send him copies of his pic...
He actually played for the USA team in this world cup.

Ok Guys so what are your quotes for the final victory?
Mine are:
France 32%
Germany: 26%
Italy: 26%
Portugal: 16%
On paper Italy has players with more experience on the international field, and this should offset the Home factor Germany enjoys.
The only problem I see is that they are not playing on paper.
Sorry for out Portoguese friends but I definitely see France favorite against Portugal. (I must admit I saw England favourite against Portugal )

the picture is from the current Spiegel Online report
This is how photos can ly. I know the whole video, Volker, and tho this photo suggests it perfectly he did not really hit Cruz, who himself says he wasn't hit . It is a defense reaction, he went into it with an already extended arm against the agressive attcking crowd, he touched the face of Cruz at the rhs but it had not been a jab. The fist makes it look bad tho on the photo.
Considering how all this started and how the situation was in this moment , to pick this out and take it as a reason to suspend Frings one day before THE decisive match is neither appropriate nor does it happen by chance.
But you can leave the photo aside, it's not really about the photo, because even if it HAD been a real jab, good manners would not allow to suck profit from it as somebody who was not concerned himself at all. If Cruz had protested, o.k, another story. But this way it is simply embarrassing for the Italian media and and the guys who abuse them.

While I can understand your frustration about some overzealous journalists giving the footage to FIFA, the conspiracy theory involving the Italian football federation is just pure fantasy.
And I am not sure FIFA would have suspended Frings without any reasonable evidence, at the end of the day it is FIFA interest that the home team gets to the final, and certainly they don't want Italy to win it in a year where Italian football is under trial for corruption.

I love watching football (soccer). And tennis. No other sports really interest me.
I am still amazed, however, at the nearly 900 posts to this thread. That's just so many! Lots of football fans here! I never would have guessed there would be so many people on RFF that would be into it.
It IS the World Cup, though. Perfectly reasonable.

We certainly would love a chance to have another go after that 95th minute equalizer that costed us the European championship, and all because Del Piero failed at least two golden opportunities to secure the result.

fitzihardwurshd said:And concerning my "conspiracy theory" , the Italian trial for football corruption brings up this suspicion automatically, you must not be paranoid to think in this direction.
The Italian trial only means that most likely there has been some corruption in the Italian football, to extend this to FIFA (which includes Germans as well as representatives from all the major footballing nations) is paranoia.
Can I also remind you that there have been corruption issues with the German football environment in the not too distant past as well?
In any professional sport, if a lot of money in flowing around, someone will try to get around the rules to maximize his profit, luckily this time around, Moggi and his cronies have been caught.

You can. But why do you mention it here, what has it to do with the "Frings thing " ?
There are games today and tomorrow. Something to get our minds off the cheating thing I hope.
What we don't want, poor officiating or fake fouls deciding the game, throw in penalty kicks too, lets get this done before that.
What we do want is great play and excitement.

No surprise at all really, this is the greatest, biggest, most popular...... call it what you want..... sporting event in the world, bigger than the Olympics.

Nothing, exactly the same thing that the corruption in Italian football has to do with it, still you mentioned it here.

Ohhh Francesco... yet AGAIN you spin me right round baby.... well at least you try....
Aren't you dizzy yet from all your circlework?
Your petty remarks lack class and are completely false Francesco. When did I say this incident was amusing? It was mentioned in the context that anyone with some World Cup knowledge knows how unsavoury an incident it was...
You just can't help trying to spin any differing opinions to yours, creating your false fantasies from other peoples comments, which along with your repetition is stale.
You, Sir, are a bore!
