First of all, good luck.
I echo the sentiments above, I think it's a good thing to learn repairs and there's only one way to work out your limits. I also can't see how you would ruin the camera beyond repair should you stuff it up, so really don't understand this theme amongst members that Leicas are untouchable. They're not. I replaced the curtains and ribbons and beamsplitter on a iiic (not without its problems) and just reconditioned and cla'd an M2. I'm glad I did for what it taught me, even if the repairs are not expert. At least the cameras can take pictures again rather than sitting in a box somewhere.
Main thing is care and patience - lots of deep breaths! Let us know how you get on.
