why should anybody want to detect a higgs boson, when you can detect a neutron just for a fraction of the money! a neutron is just as good as any other fundamental particle!
these cern people just detect luxury goods for posers.

Last I heard, a Neutron was made up of three quarks, so it isn't a "fundamental particle"...

This is pretty cool, I haven't read the Wired article, but I've seen rumblings around the web about finding the final piece to the Standard Model.

They do not know that for sure yet, actually (though it is the most probable scenario). If anybody is interested in details just check the public webpage of CERN on this topic.

This really is a very good explanation and very entertaining. I enjoyed also the Lexx video Glenn gave the link to. I wouldn't have minded hearing, or rather, seeing one or two more of that young woman's questions.
