High ISO's, anyone?

I get a kick outta shooting high ISO's every now and then.

Anyone else?

The highest ISO I have ever shot is pushing Delta 3200 to 6400. Even in my digital adventures I have found no compelling reason to exceed 3200. No particular reason for it other then a lot of my older digitals do no look so good past 1600 so I just stay at or below that level. I guess that is why I have never been worried about the M9s high ISO performance. It has always been plenty good enough for me. 🙂

It does sound interesting, and probably timely for Halloween. I will have to play around with it tomorrow evening. 🙂

It's not my favorite, but I suppose the amount of low-light shooting deserves it. I've been photographing the Public Market here in Seattle after dark, and that's been warranting shooting around 1600..

Yes, I use high ISO frequently. Probably as much as I use low ISO. It's all just photography to me though.

If light is not sufficient I use appropriate higher ISO but always as low as possible and not just for the high number.

All the photos in this album are Delta 3200 shot at 3200 but pushed a little when I processed... I like the way you have real strong highs but the mid tones are on the dark side. I guess the flip side is no shadow detail. I was surprised I didn't need to do any noise reduction but I have a feeling this is because my scanner is so old and low res 😀

My D700 is used almost exclusively at 3200 or 6400 through necessity. The image quality is pretty good but the reduction in dynamic range is a trade off IMO.

I shoot a lot of high-ISO, both digital and film. My high-speed film choice is Ilford Delta 3200 developed in Tmax Developer. For digital, I shoot a Canon 5DmkII.

I shoot quite a bit of Delta 3200 at up to EI 25,600 normally though 3200-6400 to my eye they look OK. Colour film is harder but Portra can go to 3200 normally 1600.
Delta at 6400EI developed in Rodinal.

All the time, though more of a necessity than just kicks, since I shoot almost all w/available light & have a non-photo day job. Once the days get short (like this time of year through March in our part of the globe), I rarely go below ISO 1000 except on weekends. My primary use for digital is high (over 800) ISO color, which is why I always felt limited by the M8 & M9. The original reason I got into Leica Ms was because they're the easiest camera for me to focus quickly & reliably in low light (even now my D700 on single-point AF occasionally fails to lock onto subjects that I can manually focus an M on).

Back in the 70's I used to attend and shoot a lot of rock gigs (when the bouncers weren't as neanderthal and uncompromising as they are today). My favourite was cranking up Tri-X to 1600 or 3200 and getting grain like golf balls.

Haven't done this for a while (and I gave my last 8 rolls of Fuji 1600 to a mate of mine a month or two back) but this thread has whetted my appetite for some low light / high ISO shooting. Hmmmmm......subject matter??

it's a challenge to shoot with high ISO (1000 & above) with M9

with my previous D700, the highest i shot was 25,600.
